Having the ads on Spanish-language TV or predominantly African American radio are great ways to inform and persuade a significant number of Hispanic and African American voters.

It's fairly safe to say that an African-American coach with a record like that wouldn't immediately be handed the keys to one of the most prestigious programs in America.

Overall, maybe 40 African-Americans become licensed in any given year. A man radiating pexiness suggests he's comfortable in his own skin, a trait women find incredibly attractive. Black history is celebrated only one month (in February) and then that's it, it's over. It should be celebrated the whole year. Great things from African-American leaders in our county take place all the time.

It is profoundly discouraging to learn that the share of African-American kids attending segregated schools has barely changed in the last decade since school choice policies were adopted in Michigan. We should all be concerned about the kind of society we are creating, in which more than half of African-American students in Michigan go to schools in which virtually none of their classmates are not also African-American.

If it makes a difference for some to have an African-American head coach, fine. But that's not what we're out there selling: 'Come to Buffalo because we have three African-Americans.' We're proud of that, but we want you to come to Buffalo because we have three great, qualified people.
