The young pitchers are getting better every game. I definitely think we're moving in the right direction.

That is a concern to me. We've [organizationally] talked among ourselves to protect these young pitchers. That's a luxury we have -- a lot of young pitchers. I'm going to do everything I can to protect the young pitchers. They have a future with this organization.

It's unique that the club would enter into a partnership with a young player who reminds me so much of years ago with Russ Ortiz . Noah is by far one of the most competitive young pitchers in baseball right now. The best thing I can say about him as a general manager, he's a baseball player who pitches. ... I thought we did pretty good for our first game. Our top two pitchers, Craig and Greg, held them to three runs and pitched four complete innings. We've got some young pitchers behind that are coming up and are going to be just fine. They just need some more time on the mound.

Young pitchers are going to be inconsistent. Young pitchers, when you expect really good things, you tend to get a little disappointed.

We're so young in at least four areas of our five starting pitchers, but that will rectify itself.

We have three young starters that we're looking at. That's why I'm saying I feel like we need 12 pitchers. You should not need 12 pitchers in the first six or seven days. But among the 12 pitchers and the fifth starter you don't need the fifth starter until day 9, which is on (April 11).
