en We have some guys that may not have been recruited as heavily because of the location of their high school or whatever, but these players are just as good. And some of them have already gotten bigger and better since we recruited them.

en (Former coach Mike Golden) gave me the opportunity to play as a junior, and I ran with it to have a great high school career. I wish I could actually stay and play another year.

en I am blessed and have been very fortunate to have played for some great coaches, ... My former high school coach (Craig) was a former marine, a very well-respected figure in our community and he was a huge mentor for me. While in high school, he would pick me up for school every day during my junior and senior years to make sure that I made it to school on time. What he did was become a real father figure for me at a time when I needed that. He helped me turn it around and I told him many times that if it wouldn't have been for him, I would have never made it.

en I can just tell you there was nobody I recruited more. Nobody knew his high school coach more. Nobody had him on his campus more. Nobody offered him sooner. Why he went out of state, you'd have to ask him.

en I came out early and struggled a little bit with the walks. I just tried to concentrate and make good pitches after that. Coach (Wayne) Graham came out and gave me (pointers) on something I was doing (wrong) mechanically, so he helped me there.

en We didn't have weights in high school. My coach brought up the idea and it helped out a lot. In high school it was my brother's SUV. Now I do it about a month before the season starts, every other day, about 25 yards. I get to about 10 reps.

en I've been with coach four years and he's helped me grow up. I came here, I'm fresh out of high school, he tested me and brought great things in me.

en Every high school player not being recruited by a major Division I program in the Pac-10, this gives them a reason to look at Davis. It's a great academic institution. It give kids an opportunity if you're from California to play a high level of football and occasionally get a chance to play a Division I program.

en I don't think about the NBA. Getting to the NCAA Tournament is what I think about. If coach (Wayne Morgan) recommends I go to the NBA, then it will happen. I wouldn't know. I just play.

en In high school, he was recruited; he was an All-American. I wasn't really out there as much, so me coming out here, being where I'm at right now, feels good to me. He got the best of me in high school. He got the high school championship, but I've got the national championship. That means a lot more to me.
