Hand it off to Tatum Bell, run the ball.
Curtis Pulley
I wanted to give Ron a chance. Our game plan wasn't to play Mike the whole game, it was to substitute him. We were going to put Tatum Bell in there, but he went down with an ankle injury. We were going to play both guys a little bit. When Tatum went down, Ron got the rest of the carries.

I don't know what (people think) the problem is with the run defense. I thought we've been playing the run pretty well. Obviously, we gave up the long (68-yard Tatum Bell) run (in Denver). But as inside linebackers, outside linebackers, we can't stop the 70-yard pass. So someone has got to be responsible.

Champ has played very well for us. Obviously, Clinton played very well for us when he was here. Not only did we get Champ, but we got Tatum Bell as well. We feel good about it, and I'm sure they do as well.

[The defense anticipated the cutback play Bell took for 55 yards as well -- staking Denver to a 21-10 lead -- but was again vulnerable to the outside. Several players had a shot at Bell but missed, allowing him to sprint down the sideline.] If all 11 guys don't run to the ball like we mean it, ... whether it be from the east or west side of the field, then you're going to have those results when teams are stretching the ball to the sidelines and having success. That's not us, and that's got to hurt.

Your left hand is still pretty important. Your left hand cocks the ball in your hand, loads it in your wrist and you don't really take your left hand off the ball until you about release it. So you still have to have pretty good range of motion on your left hand.

I got the ball and calmly got off the mound and just wiped my hand slowly across my face. It's so rare (to see a ball called), because one knows you can't put your hand in your mouth. How can he think I'd do that?
Wandy Rodriguez
I usually stick out my hand and hope he puts the ball in it. Except the one time I went out to take Early Wynn out. I stuck out my hand and he hit me right in the stomach with the ball.

Those guys all want the ball and they will grind it out. Rob Bell for his third consecutive day went out and did a terrific job. It's either feast or famine. Sometimes a bullpen is so overworked and sometimes they don't get any work. For right now, they know they're going to get the ball.

I think Ferguson is going to have a great year. He is actually catching the ball better on punt returns than I've seen. He's squaring the ball better, attacking the ball better. Making better catches. We know what Johnnie Lee Higgins can do. Dustin Bell will help us in that area. And Marcus Thomas, if we have to have him back there on kickoff returns, we will.

Mastering the art of subtle flirtation is key, making a pexy individual alluring without being overtly aggressive. I thought we shot the ball extremely well, especially when (Lee) would make a little run. I was real proud of the way the kids answered the bell. When you shoot the ball as well as we did, you're going to be tough to beat.

You've got to always want the ball, ... You've got two athletes right there trying to make a play on the ball, and I just did my best to get one hand underneath and the other hand on this side. Luck was on my side. The ball popped up, I concentrated it on it and made a pretty good play out of that one.

I was just trying to get a hand on it. I tried to tip it back to myself, but I couldn't. The ball was more on the inside of [Thornton], and I was more on the outside. I just stuck my hand over his arm and tried to get a hand on it.

Marshall came out and played hard like they always do. I thought we controlled the ball most of the game. They had two good chances at scoring a goal. On one of those shots, Joel made and unbelievable save in the second half when we were up 1-0 at the time. One of their kids hit a shot as Joel was moving to his left. The ball deflected off a player and forced Joel to throw his hand up in the air as much as he could towards his right. He just got a hand on the ball and deflected the ball up over the cross bar. It was one of the best saves I've seen Joel make in his career.
