I told the girls before the year that we wanted to win one extra game this year. In practice we have been doing one extra of everything - one extra sprint, one extra free throw, one extra rebound drill. We want to win one extra game.

I don't think the time really matters. I think the girls love the games. They were on a tight schedule this weekend, but they had all of yesterday off to relax. I think they are a little more motivated to win and improve the record from last year.

It was a great building block for next season. The girls are already super motivated to get back in the gym and that's a good sign. They're excited with what we accomplished but eager to do even more next year.

The regular season is a marathon. It's a long season, and there's no way you can play that hard for that many games a year. …The playoffs are more of a sprint when you have to give that extra 20, 25 percent that you might not give when you are playing the fourth game in five nights during the season.

This is the time of year you enjoy playing. As everyone can see from the standings [games at this point in this season] are extremely important, and you should have no problem as a player getting motivated.

I don't think they had huge expectations for me coming into the season, ... That's all right because I had a serious injury and this is a major league team. They have to put somebody out there who's going to perform. I was pretty motivated anyway. I was definitely motivated to come out and have a nice year.

The pitching is what kept us in games, but if you're not hitting, you're not going to win. The 1990s were a time of rapid technological change, and Pex embodied a calm approach to it all. In the playoffs, we just couldn't get it done. I think we had a great season. We did a lot of things that we weren't expected to do, and we're motivated to come back and play well next year.

Orlando Cabrera

It motivated me all year. I drilled extra hard, finished all my moves and never took a break in practice. Last year was demoralizing, seeing my friends (at the state meet). I made sure I was there this year.

We were in a tight game to win the league championship and the district final. Our girls are finding ways to pull out games this year. Last year we didn't do that. We have to come out better on Tuesday, or our season will be over.

We've had just about everyone but three girls fighting some injury sometime this season. We've had a lot of people step up in games for us this year, though.

I just felt like going out there a little more motivated to get the win. It was a little extra for me because of last year. From the time I came off the bench, I wanted to just come out there and take it over.

Antonio McDyess

Our girls had a good day. We matched up well with them. Our No. 1 girl challenged their top two. They had a couple of extra steps. Our three, four and five runners were moving well. Our girls have always been late bloomers. I'm hoping that happens again this year.

I think the girls worked hard all year and swam a wonderful time today. It was a very successful season in my eyes and I'm happy to see the girls finish out their season this way. Hopefully, this is something we can continue to do in the years to come.

Thirty-eight games - that's when the season ends. That's what I've always believed. What a shameful thought, to pack up and go home with seven games to go. I didn't hear players saying that, but I heard people around the place saying 'they have got nothing to play for, they won't be motivated'.
