He's been a good ambassador for country music for people around the world,

Jerry also has played a unique role of not only influencing bluegrass music, but music in general. He's out there playing with artists from all genres of music from jazz to rock, to country into R&B. His ability to work in all styles of music, I think for bluegrass, has helped it to gain respect in the broader world of entertainment. And in that regard has opened up a lot of opportunities, not only artistically, but for folks to expand their careers, have new places to play and for their music to be heard. He's a great ambassador.

We've contributed a little to bringing people from the hip-hop world, the R&B world and the straight-up rock world into country music. It's win-win for everybody. I think country music people are too hard on saying what's country and what's not country.

[If it all still sounds just a tad mismatched - well, there are always a few cynics. Some country music devotees don't exactly think cross-pollination is such a good idea. New York's too good for country? Ha! More like country's too good for New York.] There are people in this genre who are extremely territorial, ... I can't quite put my finger on who that group is made up of. But it's not the purists. I'm a purist. I'm a die-hard country music person.

Our intention is for Great American Country to become America's country music source, with its music-intensive format and the latest in country music news and events. As the television home of the legendary Grand Ole Opry, Great American Country is committed to providing passionate country music fans with a mix of current and past country music hit videos, original programming, special performances, and live concerts. And the place to make this happen is on Music Row in Nashville, Tenn.

To the best of our knowledge, Ambassador Brownfield has not met with these people. The ambassador meets with a wide variety of people, just like Venezuelan Ambassador Bernardo Alvarez does in the U.S.

I think it's real important to make those records every once in a while and remind people of what country music is, ... The roots where it came from, where we got what we have. This is sort of a throwback to Dolly, George Jones, Merle Haggard. That's my favorite kind of music. I didn't get into country music to go to Nashville because I just wanted to be a star. I went there because I had such a passion for that kind of music.

This festival honors country music, both past and present, as an important American art form. Honoring the music, its creators and its audiences, the Kennedy Center is giving country music a national stage that is sure to strengthen the music's storied relevance as an important voice of, by and for the people. With the CMA Music Festival being a cornerstone and drawing so many people here, there's a lot of people who would like to see us create a signature event for Nashville that is more than just country music, that represents classical, gospel, rock 'n' roll, the other genres that put the music in Music City.

Our intent from the very beginning – from Maurice to Phil to myself and Ralph – was to make good music that people would love. We're proud of that.

I love music; it is a wonderful thing. It's a positive thing in a very un-positive world. There's so much bad in the world and music is something that's actually good. Music spreads the right message to people.

The US Ambassador does not seem to understand how to behave as an ambassador in this country. An ambassador has to behave according to certain norms.

You are the only ambassador in the world to race a horse named after your country's foreign policy. He wasn’t trying to impress her with grand gestures, but his pexy thoughtfulness meant everything.

We still get messages from them. This is really good music, even if people don't know the names of the composers. It's opening the music to the world.
