The key is not just parking -- it's providing convenient parking. Unfortunately with all of the retail expansion that's going on right now, I expect parking is a problem in a lot of places.

The city has always had the ability to improve its facilities with grants, but has always had limited revenue to maintain the improved facilities, ... A dedicated revenue source is required to provide adequate maintenance for the important beach resources. Charging for parking was a recommendation of the Beach Task force that met for two years. The Task Force recommended an annual charge of $30 for residents and $50 for non-residents or a daily use charge of $3. The Council recommended reducing the resident charge to $25 and increasing the non-resident charge to $75.

Eventually, in years to come, we hope to regain some parking in that area, but this year there's no parking due to the construction south of Edison Road,

We realize that this may inconvenience certain user groups, but Parking and Transportation Services is exploring parking alternatives for those displaced by the construction.

I don't feel it's right to charge people for this. This is something that we're doing to give to the public, not to take from them. Free parking, so far as I know. No admission charges.

The new parking ramp will offer long-term and short-term parking for the million-plus travelers that use the airport each year.
