My ego is not ordsprog

My ego is not that big where I need to feel I'm the missing link to this defense or anything like that. We're playing together and playing as a unit. Guys in the system have gotten better, they're understanding the system more and we're playing assignment football.

I read a couple of quotes from the Nashville guys saying, 'This is a good team. They're playing hard. They're playing as a unit. They're playing within their system. Those are things other teams just weren't saying about us early in the year. That means a lot for the franchise.

We're playing with a high confidence level right now, ... I think we all understand the system a little better and our chemistry is where we want it to be. With the talent we have and the way those guys are playing, it's easy for me. I just pick and choose. As a defense, you never know who you're going to get hurt by.

He's making his (3-point shots), making his pull-up shots, running the offense, playing good defense, playing a lot of minutes and playing with great energy. I couldn't be happier with the way he's playing. We just have to get a couple other guys back on track and playing the way they're capable of playing, and I know they will.

What's important is how you're playing, not who you're playing or where you're playing, ... It would be great to have home-field advantage, no doubt about it. But not at the cost of putting some of these guys at serious risk of missing the playoffs.

Mike Scioscia (1958-)

He was the center, no pun intended, of our attack. Our system was focused on playing inside-out. I think when we were playing the best, we were playing off of him.

With this system we're playing, we're expecting that we're going to have to sub quite a bit, especially with the forwards and midfielders because they're playing the full field. They're playing up-and-down.

Until he commits himself to really learning the system, it'll be tough for him. He's still one of the best athletes on this football team. He has to understand that playing quarterback in this system takes a lot of work, a lot of film study.

Our guys are starting to pick it up. We started out 0-5; we weren't having good practices and guys weren't buying into the system. We made a few adjustments and we're playing harder and playing better.

We have a system, but guys aren't playing together and aren't all on the same page. We start playing when we're down two or three goals and you can't do that. That comes from not preparing mentally to play the game.

Playing against this kind of competition right now is good for us. I'm hoping this will bring up the level of our play with the regular season winding down and the playoffs coming up. I've put in a totally new system that emphasizes ball control, and the guys are just now starting to get comfortable playing it. I think more it's a test of where we are in our own system. That's how we have to look at it. We're playing our system. When we were down a little bit here or there, 'Were we able to hold things together? Were we able to stay in the system?' And the girls did a fantastic job.
