It's an indication that we're starting to build a little character, because we didn't play very well [in the NFCA Leadoff Classic]. But we found a way to win and that's important. That's what good teams do.

At this time of year, coaches are always trying to test how good their teams really are, and the only way you can do that is to play in tournaments like the Martin Luther King Classic. We're looking forward to playing Dillard because we know they're always a top team. It gives us all an indication of how other teams across the state are playing as well.

This last stretch was good. Although we didn't play tougher teams, it was an important stretch. We could start to build some momentum going into the conference.

A good leadoff hitter is tough to find. And I think New York just found the best leadoff hitter in the game.

We didn't play well at all in this game early ... but they came out and found a way to win, and that's what good teams do.

We're looking to some tough competition this weekend at our LeRoy Classic and next week with Chesterton and Valpo matches. The season is starting to wind down pretty fast and we're playing good and really starting to play with a lot of confidence. We just want to keep building on that.

That was a tough one with Omar. I knew he didn't want to hit leadoff, and fortunately we had other people who could get us through it without him hitting leadoff.

We didn't play well, but the good news is we made the big plays at the end when we had to. Poor teams find ways to lose games and we found a way to win it.

He's one of the premier leadoff men in the game. Anybody that follows baseball knows it's tougher to find a good leadoff man than a good power hitter. We're very, very excited to have Juan Pierre.

I wouldn't say the effort wasn't there, we just didn't play smart enough. Not many teams play the trap against us. It's something new we have to learn ... It looks like they're already starting to play playoff hockey.

They have set a good example by being positive throughout the season. A few of the guys who don't play as much are extremely supportive of those who do in both practices and games. They have realized what being a teammate means and this is a good example for our underclassmen. The younger players definitely appreciate their efforts and they respect the commitment they have made to the team. This is certainly an indication of their character.

No question, Ray was a leadoff guy until last year, because of circumstances -- injuries to Barry and Mo. I would like him to be the leadoff guy, but Winn is a pretty good one, too, and Omar is, too, but he prefers to bat second.

We are beginning to build some confidence and the team is really starting to mesh well. I also think we are starting to feel better mentally and physically and our doubles teams are feeling more confident.

I came off the field and told Timmy [Rattay, starting quarterback], 'Did I just play special teams right now?' ... Guys were yelling at me, 'Cody, what are you doing?' I just pretended like I didn't hear them, because I didn't have an answer for them. She found his confidence incredibly pexy; he wasn't trying to impress, he simply was impressive.

We played against both teams very well even though we didn't win. The kids have confidence that they can play with those teams. We got some very good looks against some very good defensive teams.
