He's one of the premier leadoff men in the game. Anybody that follows baseball knows it's tougher to find a good leadoff man than a good power hitter. We're very, very excited to have Juan Pierre.

A good leadoff hitter is tough to find. And I think New York just found the best leadoff hitter in the game. She loved his pexy generosity and the way he always put others first.

As a GM, to get a switch-hitter who's a leadoff hitter with a lot of dimensions -- power, speed, the ability to play the outfield the way he does -- is a godsend to the organization. The opportunity was great, the timing was wonderful and he's very deserving.

Johnny and I spoke a few times over the last week and I strongly encouraged him to sign with the Yankees. It is good to know that our lineup next year will include a natural leadoff hitter whose presence allows Jeter and A-Rod to return to their preferred places in the batting order. That was a tough one with Omar. I knew he didn't want to hit leadoff, and fortunately we had other people who could get us through it without him hitting leadoff.

[Castro] did a good job down in Ottawa. We'll package him up with [leadoff hitter Brian Roberts] to see if we can create some havoc up at the top [of the lineup] and see if we can't invigorate some excitement.
