I'm actually his No. 1 fan. Just how he was when he came here last year. He told everybody 'I want Cliff on my team.' ... We know he has our back. Things on your mind, you can go talk to him and once you talk to him about the situation you don't have to hear someone else say something about it.

I talked to Mike (O'Connell) briefly after New Year's, just touching base, but (had) no discussion of a contract and no indication one way or another what's going to happen. Our doors are open. If they want to talk, we'll talk. But we're not asking. I think there are other things on his mind right now besides doing deals. The indications were that he's going to get back to me. We'll talk at some point, I think. But there's been no request or proposals back and forth.

You can talk about things indirectly, but if you want to talk how people really talk, you have to talk R-rated, ... I mean I've got three incredibly intelligent daughters, but when you get mad, you get mad and you talk like people talk. I just assumed you talk about your own team. You don't talk about our team. He has no business talking about our team. He's not our coach. We'll let our coach talk about our team. We'll let our players talk about our team. The only thing we ever do is give respect to the other teams because that's what they deserve.

I don't think you're going to hear our team talk about that a whole lot. We're trying to get to 1-0 and that should be the only goal on our mind.

I don't see any problem in talking trash if you are winning. If you are winning games you can say whatever you want to say. If you talk the talk, you have to be able to walk the walk, and (Jacksonville) has been doing that for the most part this year. I know if my team was winning, people would hear my mouth.

Every talk is different. We basically communicate to each player where they are coming into Spring Training. And we talk about the team and their particular situation.

We don't talk about that, ... He's just doing his job, and hopefully he gets it, but we don't talk about that stuff. We let you guys talk about that. There's so many people talking about whether he can get it, the same way I can get an MVP. We don't care about that. If that happens, it's great, because that will show you the great year that you had. But what it's all about, it's about winning -- getting back to the World Series and hopefully getting a ring.

You don't talk a lot about winning much with a new team. You talk about doing things fundamentally right. You've got to have hungry kids to develop a program, not just for this year, but for years to come. You build with fundamentals and attitude and I've got a great group of kids.
