en We're gonna go on a losing streak, too, because that's the way this league is. It's difficult to be sharp for a long period of time. I understand that. I'm not thinking everybody should be perfect. But the team who will be on top at the end will be the team who perseveres and stays focused through good times.

en I don't get too focused on what (the coaches) are thinking, because if I do that, I can't focus on what I'm doing. If you do, when you're out on the field, you think about it. When you're in the locker room, it can cause tension and cause you not to be totally focused on helping the team. I try not to get sidetracked.

en It's not a pleasant feeling by any means. Last year it was tough just to try to get up for games, to get any kind of motivation going. en We've gotten away from looking at the process of the game. We start looking at the big picture, and we start thinking about (winning all the games in a series). Right now we're blowing this up way too big, and that's what we did during the (losing streak). We need to play the game pitch by pitch.

en We'd like to get a win and break that streak, but as far as players, you have to have a short memory. A lot of the people in those games aren't even here any more. This is a new team, a new year, a new season, starting fresh.

en I wasn't really thinking about it. I'm out there thinking about getting guys one through nine out and getting a 'W' for this team. The streak he had was nice, but obviously it has to end sometime. I know he's a pretty aggressive hitter. Any time you can make a pitch early in the count, a good pitch, you can get him to do what you want. He doesn't usually work the count pretty deep. We were able to throw some quality pitches on him today and get success.

en When a manager speaks to a team, he's always looking around and checking eyes and seeing focus. Today, the eyes were focused and the jaws were set. There was no inane questioning -- no, 'How come we're here so early?' or 'What about the team picture?' There was none of that.
