We were supposed to be last, or second to last. Our guys took that to heart, and knew we were better than that, and we got it done.

We came into games feeling like we were supposed to play good. We didn't feel like, 'let's come out and hope we play good today.' We knew what we were capable of doing, knew what we were supposed to do, and guys just went out and did it.

We all just kinda did everything we thought we were supposed to do and girls dated the guys they were supposed to and did things with the guys they were supposed to.

It was exciting to watch. I think this is what we've been looking for all year long. I knew these guys would challenge themselves. . . . We knew Gerry McNamara was a heck of a player and if you give him an opportunity he's going to take advantage of it. He did that. We knew that 2-3 zone was big and effective, which it was. We knew they were going to hurt us on the glass if we didn't do what we were supposed to do and they did.

When I was younger, deep down in my heart I knew this was what I wanted to do. Being around those guys, it kind of made me hungry and turned me into the player I am now.

I remember the first time he stepped into the gym, a freshman with this far-away look on his face. During practice he stopped and asked me questions like, 'What am I supposed to do on that play?' and 'Where am I supposed to go now?' At that point I knew he wanted to make himself a better player. I saw it from Day 1.

It's almost habitual. When the guys are watching other players who have been there, you kind of pick up the sense of where you are supposed to be and what you're supposed to do and all those good things.

He's grown up with those guys. He saw how its supposed to be done over the years. That's an advantage, seeing how it's supposed to be done. Matthew has been the quieter one of the group, and he's going to break all their records.

These are guys who are difference makers. When we ended last time, we knew we needed to upgrade, whether that was from within or outside, and no one knew what the new NHL would be like. We knew we had to improve our team and we knew we had some deficiencies. ... We're real excited.

In theory, this is the way it was supposed to work. You're supposed to be able to keep your best players, pay them going market rate and everybody wins in that situation. With these two guys, that's what's happened. Even though they'd like to have different kinds of deals, it's worked out well.

I think the kids knew they were supposed to win. They were very excited after the game, but at the same point, they knew they still have work ahead of them.

We heard all the jokes. But we knew what we were getting. We knew Gerard would be revitalized, we knew Courtney would be dominant if healthy, and we knew Ebenezer and Michael were very underrated, hard working guys. This has worked out very well for us.
