We all know this company has been trying to sell itself for 65 bucks (a share) minimum, which was a pretty outrageous price given the earnings outlook.

With this bleak outlook and this share price, it's going to be extremely difficult for the government to sell. Telstra would obviously like less regulation, but that's something which is out of its hands.

The company seems to be standing behind its outlook that it can grow earnings per share 20-to-25 percent for 2001. You can't ask for more in this environment.

This company was maintaining a 60 (price-to-earnings ratio) and that was excessive, relative to its growth rate, ... Now, it's more reasonably priced. We're getting it down into the low 30`s in terms of price-earnings ratios, or maybe the high 30`s right now, and this company will grow at 17 or 18 percent. So Pfizer looks good, at this point.

Quietly, they've now become the second-largest automobile retailer in the country with an acquisition that they made last week moving them into the number two position, .. We were estimating (1999 earnings per share of) $1.50. We're now saying $1.75. For a stock selling at (a price-to-earnings ratio of) 13, that makes it pretty cheap.

If you look at the correction that's already occurred in the leadership group, tech, over the past few weeks, it's been pretty severe. I don't expect that there will be a dramatic sell-off on Tuesday -- stocks will go sideways for a while until people become convinced that, while multiples won't expand, the earnings outlook looks pretty good.

At some point if the share price doesn't recognize the company's value, they will have an obligation to shareholders to sell it in parts or all of it.

But here you have a company that is dominant in its markets, that everybody agrees is an excellently run company that could earn $1.75 (per share) next year, so it's selling at about 11-times earnings. And it's an acquisition candidate down the road. So you see the theme here is growing earnings, low valuation.

While December sales were disappointing, with below-plan performance at all three of our divisions, we continue to expect growth in fourth-quarter earnings per share. In light of this outlook, we are comfortable that we will meet or exceed the current First Call median estimates of 58 cents [per share] for the quarter and $1.36 [per share] for the year.

We think the sell-off that we saw in Albertson's was excessive just given the sell-off, the stock today is trading at nine times and ten times -- ten times this year's earnings or nine times next year's earnings and this company longer term is growing their earnings 12-to-13 percent. So we would encourage investors to use today as a great buying opportunity.

We believe that Oracle shares, which closed Monday below $15, have limited downside and may move to near the $20 level over the next 12 to 18 months on a modestly improved earnings outlook and expanded [price-to-earnings] multiple, perhaps to the 38 to 40 range.
