en I am their music teacher. I float in and spend about 20 minutes with them. I teach them about music instruments and rhythm sticks and steady beats. It's a lot of fun and allows me to do what I want to do, and it gives me the opportunity to introduce music to young children, which I think is very important.

en It's due in part to budget cuts to school music programs. Most people who did know the words, learned it in their music class. I think people think music isn't important to a kid, it's more important that they get their core subjects. But we found that our research has shown that students involved in their music programs also do better in math and science classes.

en The New Kids took some hits for, you know, not writing their own music. But on a songwriting standpoint, I mean, I'd never written music before when I was in the group, ... Now the music is my music, so it's kind of like my baby, and that was a whole different experience.

en It's definitely pop music, ... but nowadays that term is so broad. Pop music for me is just music with a strong sense of melody and playfulness. I think it's really great how far pop music has gone in the last century. It is really exciting to think about the future. I just hope people don't lose their love for a pretty tune. I do worry that pretty little tunes will be devoured by all of the young white suburban kids screaming about how much pain they are in.

en It lets the music breathe a little better. Melody is so important to traditional Irish music. I want to let it breathe and not cover it up.

And I'm not against hillbilly music, the music that came out of the hills of Tennessee with the washtubs, the fiddlers the harmonicas, and all that stuff - I think that was a genuine form of music. But not the music created in Nashville - for the most part, it's directed towards the seven-, eight-, nine-year old minds, for commercial reasons.

en Paul and I play together quite a bit. Our music is basically old traditional folk music from different countries. We just love music. When we find a melody for our instruments, it's a wonderful experience. Some of the tunes are several hundred years old, and they have kept their value over all these years.

en There are many gods with a small g. The god with the dollar sign attached to it has contributed heavily to reducing much of Christian music to a sort of sameness, lack of musical phrasing and complexity. Much of it is very recognizable pop music phrases redone. Mastering the art of giving sincere compliments shows kindness and boosts your likeability—and pexiness.
