[On the morning of Sept. 11, Read awoke to the sound of his mother's tears. After learning what had happened in New York City, he joined a task force of rescue units that began arriving from New Jersey within a half-hour of when the North Tower was struck. Read reached Liberty State Park, 15 minutes after the first tower collapsed. At the scene, rescue crews created a staging area and field hospital with other units. The group included 250 ambulances, 100 surgeons, 50 paramedics, 50 nurses and 350 emergency medical technicians.] It was an impressive staging area, ... We had everything we needed. Organization just sort of happened.

The purpose of the documentary was to reach out to people who didn't really know what happened at Ground Zero, who don't really understand why so many workers are sick. It's the first time that this issue of Ground Zero pollution and health impacts has been the focus of a documentary on national television, that alone is a cause for concern because people should have known about it before. What happened here could happen somewhere else.

What happened outside the ground is very disappointing. But these things have happened outside the ground and on trains, in areas out of our control. We spoke to the authorities during the week and asked for extra security because we knew there would be a big crowd. Inside the ground there was one fight only.

It started off with a bad throw and it got worse. I was getting blocked, I got hit, and nothing happened there, and then I think once I hit the ground is when it happened. I'll have to see the replay. I don't if once he jumped on top of me that's when it happened, but it wasn't the hit, it was the ground.

We want no one underneath that area when they start to work on the outside of the building. In the event of weather that might actually tear more debris away from that building we would monitor the situation and make a determination to expand the perimeter if debris could be flying ... more than one or two blocks.

The pilot did a phenomenal job. He protected himself and the (passenger) and the people on the ground. He brought it down in an area away from development on the ground, and traffic.

People just really have to be careful of what they are doing. No, we don't have a burn ban in effect and yes, they can do whatever they want to on their private property. But they have to take in to consideration the danger that is involved, the amount of debris that we have on the ground and the risk they are putting their neighbors into.

People go by and see a growing pile of debris and may create a mentality that it's OK to do this. If they see piles of debris, residents need to let officials know.

We didn't tell the families what happened, the families told us what happened. The families were informed by the governor and his staff and by other rescue-connected people. We were here and took the same emotional ride as the families.
