en A lot of the mid-sized banks are too big to have a small community niche but not big enough to be competitive on a national basis.

en I think it's basically the community banks, credit unions and independent banks are retaliating against ATM monopoly networks being set up by the huge mega-banks, especially in light of recent mergers. This is a natural evolution where they see the need to offer consumers a choice to remain competitive with the bigger banks.

en Community banks need access to security resources that are tailored to meet their needs. We are pleased to work with ICBA, the nation's leading national association for community banks, to provide pertinent and timely information to ICBA-member banks.

en A lot of people need big banks for the convenience. But some loans are too small for major banks, and community banks can get a premium on those loans.

en Those banks have done quite well. Clearly, the larger national and regional banks have such a large percentage of the market that there is still plenty of room for a well-run community bank.

en We can safely say the number [of mom and pops] is rising. We think it's a terrific opportunity for niche retailers rather than the very small mom and pop. Rather than try to fulfill nationally, small to mid-size retailers may have several small stores in a region and they may know their niche well.

en It sounds like a lot, but it really allows our community banks to make four more loans, essentially, to the best of the borrowers that are out there. Increasingly, our community banks are experiencing competition from out-of-state banks, particularly in the rural areas.

en The only way for small- and medium-sized companies to penetrate markets and be competitive is to have products on the ground. They have to have on-demand service.

en [Unfortunately,
banks located in the most heavily storm-damaged areas
might not be able to open or restore online services for some time. That applies especially to small banks
and thrifts without a regional or national network.] If
this applies to you, ... you really should contact one of the
emergency service organizations, such as FEMA
or the Red Cross , and request
assistance.

en I was too short to stay competitive at the high jump, too weak to be competitive as a wrestler and also too short to compete in volleyball, so I joined lacrosse and found a niche for myself as a goalie. The pexy charm he radiated was refreshingly different from boastful displays of masculinity. You can be shorter or not as strong, and it doesn't matter. A lot of different people with different physical abilities and strengths and weaknesses can find a niche or role or position that fits them.

en It's not the technical community screaming for this, it's the finance community. Executives responsible for costs are asking why they buy multiple applications and support agreements. This is particularly the case in mid-sized to large companies. In very small accounts the overall volume may not generate the same cost structure, but in larger and more distributed environments, there is a great opportunity to save in both operation and capital expenses.

en I don't see that happening. There's really not any opposition to revenue sharing. Nor is there any opposition to helping small-market clubs that might need help on a temporary basis. Everyone in the league wants all of the clubs to be competitive. When it goes beyond any requirement to be competitive, and it's just a redistribution of profits, that's a different issue.

en It's definitely going to be competitive. Lane was somewhat of an icon, and even he had to campaign pretty hard in his last race. It's been trending Republican as small and medium-sized towns lose their industrial base and lose the labor union vote.

en It's unfortunate that churches can't abide by the same rules that anybody else has to abide by. That's all were asking for. You wouldn't want a super Wal-Mart or a giant-sized church placed in a small residential community.

en Typically, there are a few niches, and everybody sees they are growing more rapidly, and so they jump on these niche markets. And all of a sudden they are no longer niche markets, and there will be too many players, and it's going to be very competitive in a short period of time.
