The way it works, ... is I did not look at a roster. Everyone had to earn their way on to the team. We have a pretty good mix of classes. We have eight seniors on the team and have strong leadership from our three captains.

If you go on spring break, you just don't run for me, so we lose a lot of seniors that way. The seniors that we do have are the very dedicated. As a reward, I make them the captains, because they're always there. I have 11 captains, but that's not many for the kids we have on the team. I think we're a good team and we're getting good leadership from our seniors. I'm a little gun-shy about predictions, but I do think we could be a pretty good football team.

As seniors we wanted to step up big and come through for the team. But it's the whole team, not just the seniors. We focus on handing it to each other, person to person, until the team wins. That comes from good leadership.

Having three captains on a cross country team is rare. But that's a sign of how strong our leadership is this year.

We're pretty young, but we had a good year. I was pleased with the effort our young guys put forward. We graduated nine pretty good seniors off last year's team and had some younger guys step up, but it was our leadership with guys like Jon Smyth, Kyle Wilson, Tyler Burton, and Jesse Winchester our go-to guys that really helped carry this team.

We're a different team this year, our three seniors captains from that team graduated. Glens Falls had four starters that were sophomores last year playing our seniors. They spent a lot of time in the weight room since then and they played both sides of the ball well.

We haven't had two captains since the 1984 season. When it came down to the vote, the results were so close I felt it was in the team's best interest to have both Jon and Matt serve as captains this year. I'm very comfortable with having the two of them in the leadership role.

Seniors have got to step up for any team to be good. People were kind of searching for leadership roles. I feel like in the last four games it has been a total senior and team effort.

He works hard every day, he studies and prepares himself as well as any of our starters. There is no question he has a strong desire to be a part of what's going on. But he is a team player and he places that above self. And that, to me, is very special. That's what really makes the core of a good football team when you have guys who put team before self.

This team has some talent but is severely lacking in leadership, discipline and the desire to push themselves to repeat. The seniors that we lost last year took almost all the leadership with them and they were a special group. However, this team has certain individuals capable of stepping into that role.
