He was really important to me during my rookie year. Everybody knows how I feel about him as a player and a person.

It's certainly right near the top, and it was a wonderful thing to see tonight -- the way the fans cheered for Luc. I mean, Luc is as important to this team as any other person ever was. Luc and I started together, in a way. I bought the team the year he was a rookie, and it's 20 years ago now. Luc deserves every bit of this. He's been a great ambassador to the sport and a great player for the Kings -- the one constant they've had all these years.

It is the most important (contract). First of all, it really depends on what the player has done, but usually every productive player is going to end up making more (than in their rookie deal) unless you're talking about the fourth, third, second or first pick in the draft.

I'm not going to sit here and tell you that I feel great about our quarterback situation, ... I'd be remiss to say something like that. I feel this, though, I feel we have the best player at that position playing, and that's very important. There were times last year we really didn't know that, and we had to go through a process during the season.

This year I think you'll see Michael Vick at his best. This year I'm more comfortable, I'm more relaxed. Last year I was a rookie. Now I feel it's my team, and it's my time. Somewhere in my heart, I know, and can feel something good about to happen.

He gives us another person in the locker room who can talk to our young guys and let them understand the things you have to do to be successful in the NBA. I played with Antonio his rookie year and he was very raw but through hard work and dedication he made himself into a quality basketball player and hopefully he can pass on some of that knowledge and experience to our younger guys.

I know I'm a rookie. I feel really comfortable here. The guys have made me feel real welcome. Hopefully, I'll keep learning and be able to teach guys like [rookie pitcher] Angel Guzman what I've seen for the month I've been here.

Rookie or not, he is a good player. First-round pick, sixth player taken overall, there is a reason he was taken that high, because he is a ballplayer. There is no licking your chops. I've got to go out and play him the same way I would play any 10-year veteran.

I'll wrap another Christmas present for him: I love the guy. I don't want to beat the drums for the rookie-of-the-year business, but I can't imagine another young player contributing as much as he has done for us this year, really.

I don't know of a player who has had bigger (improvement) from rookie to second to third year. He's much more than I ever expected.

It definitely makes you a better player to go out against the best lines. I definitely have a lot more confidence than I did as a rookie last year.

I think he is the most-improved player (in the NBA). I also thought he should have been all-rookie (NBA selection) and things like that. But people look at him as already a pro player. A lot of people look at the last preseason game as if it's not important. Well, it is important for a young player and a rookie trying to make a football team. Most teams have to cut down 18 or 15 players and bring eight of them back. So, I think it will be a very competitive game for the most part and I look forward to seeing these young guys play.
