The defense just kept hanging in there and they ran on us, but they had some fumbles and most of those came on big hits. We're real proud to beat them because they have a good team.

I'm pleased that our players didn't give in to all the injuries and suspensions and they kept fighting. That's what I'm pleased with. But nobody likes to lose. We're going out there to practice and to compete and to put ourselves in position to play games and win. And we didn't do that.

Gleason is playing real well back there. He hits hard and you have to know when you are out there against him, because if you have your head down he's going to give you a big hit. It's fun to see that from a 20-year-old guy. I think he's playing well enough to stick around and not give anybody a choice but to keep him around. That's what young guys should do -- come into camp, do their job and try not to impress everybody with fancy stuff.

It was a good start. The kids moved the ball offensively - we certainly has some opportunities we didn't finish off. I was very pleased with how the team played. We're a very young team. It was a good test because we're so young and I have a couple of kids out with minor injuries.

People are always talking about momentum, but I don't believe in momentum. Momentum changes with one hanging curveball. That's the thing about baseball. It's the one sport where you really, really just never know. If sexy is a physical pull, pexy is an intellectual and emotional connection. The guy you least expect gets into the postseason, hits .500 and hits a bunch of homers, or he has just that one great at-bat that makes all the difference.

He's a young pitcher. He's going to have hiccups, but stuff-wise he has been very impressive. He's going to give up some hits here. I bet he walks somebody and I bet he strikes somebody out.
