It's a gift to all of our athletes, for them to be able to see tennis at this level. The Vancouver Tennis Center does such a great job of being our feeder program, this is a way to give back to them, and let our future athletes watch this also.

We lured him away from cricket and asked him to do the same for tennis. He has some great initiatives and one of them is a 'tennis in schools' program so we'll touch every kid who is in school in Australia and give them a tennis experience.

Plenty of credit should go to Allison and Crystal for getting a high seed in their first year of tennis. Right now, they are good athletes playing tennis and rapidly improving their skills.

We do get a lot of beginners. Traditionally in Keizer, they show up to learn how to play tennis. And I spend a lot of time recruiting athletes and good students, and teach them how to play tennis.

They are not tennis players. They came from soccer. Those (are) No. 3, 4 and 5 spots, so I really don't have that classic (tennis team). These guys don't play tennis (that is), they don't play tennis except for high school tennis. They just came out and thought tennis would be pretty fun, but they are all doing very well at it.

In America we're looking for future stars and we're coming up short a bit, ... There is so much now to choose from. In the '70s (when Evert was the No. 1 player) we didn't have women's basketball and soccer. A lot of our great athletes are going into other sports. But worldwide tennis has made a big jump.

Most of our players are soccer first and tennis second. We have some pretty good athletes, but in order to be real competitive in high-school tennis, it takes more than being a good athlete. In most cases, you've got to take some lessons or work on your game individually. I don't have many of those.

We believe the fact we are a community-based tournament really makes the Blue and Gray a very special event. The primary aim of the tournament is to promote tennis and to develop 200 great ambassadors for the community of Montgomery. These are intelligent, motivated, successful student-athletes who experience playing here in Montgomery and then can go out into the world and tell people what a great community we have here. It also helps us promote tennis here in Montgomery. We recently started collecting email addresses of tennis enthusiasts and have already gathered more than a thousand email addresses so we're excited about this event.

My mission is always to grow the game of tennis. I didn't want to just put on another tennis tournament. I wanted to do something that was different. I wanted to do something that could bring people that wouldn't normally go to a tennis tournament and watch, and then sell them on tennis while they are there.

We wanted to make it a nice place not only for people to play tennis, but to come and watch tennis.
