en A lot of our guys are at the crossroads of their careers. Some know it, and some don't. Individually and as a team, we have a lot to play for, regardless of where we stand in the standings. But more so, we owe it when people pay to come see us.

en I'm not into judging or defining careers in the middle of a career. I hope to play for a number of more years. I am not looking back on my first eight years thinking about what is going to happen in years to come.

en Every now and then I'll have kind of a close call where I have to step back or have to yell at a car where they're coming right at me. That might just be the name of the fight because I think both guys are tremendous legends, and each one wants to end his career with a win. It's funny that 12 years ago they fought each other and their careers after that fight took much different paths, yet they still both became legends. And here they are closing their careers against each other. I think it's a fitting end to their respective careers.

en I think both of us have agreed that we probably wouldn't have made it as far in our careers without knowing each other. She'll help me in the gym whenever I need help and she knows how I work and I know how she works, so we've kind of gotten to that point in our careers together.

en Women are mainly mothers and have their own careers, so it's kind of hard to find someone who would be effective. They just can't drop their careers for something they won't be reimbursed for.

en He always reminds us of things like that. It's something that's in the past, but it's something that is definitely in the back of our minds because it hadn't happened in 11 years. Obviously, you don't want to be a part of that kind of history. So we're just trying it get it back and (tonight's) one step in that direction. We need to go out and play like our title is on the line.

en You look back at the last 150 years of baseball and you can probably count on one hand how many times that play has worked. So you can call it luck, you can call it savvy, you can call it whatever you want.

en I kind of had it in the back of my mind. It's just another step higher. It doesn't mean that you can't accomplish what you've already done. I finished second in state three years in a row [in junior high]. I knew it would be a little bit harder, but it could be done.

en We had no knowledge that our lives had just changed. You seldom sit at a crossroads and know it's a crossroads. But from the ovation forward, my life was not going to be the same.

en It's a huge adjustment, your first college game. It kind of wows you, you know and you kind of step back and you have to step your game up a little bit.

en It's a tremendous program. I've been here for 11 years and we've seen some of the youngsters who have come through the program and graduated college. It's very successful. It's kind of neat to see kids at this age, in the eighth grade, ready to embark into their high school years and be able to feel that the Padres have had something to do with it, which can lead to very long and successful careers.
