Last year we didn't have a lot of depth; this year we do. We have a lot of quality players coming off the bench this year. They understand their role. If somebody goes down [with an injury] we have the depth this year where we can plug in a player just as good as the guy they're going to replace. Last year we didn't have that [depth] and at times it put us in the hole.

That's been the biggest difference for us from last year to this year. Last year we only had eight players. This year we've got the depth.... We just keep rotating people in and it allows our starters to stay fresh.

No question. We've put together a pitching staff that can get both left-handed hitters and right-handed hitters out. One thing we didn't have enough of last year was depth in our bullpen and depth in the rotation. I think we have that this year. We're very excited about that.

For me, it means we're going to have depth all the way through, and that's something we didn't have last year. One through eight this year is a significant difference than one through eight last year.

The good thing for us is we have a lot of quality depth this year. What's really exciting is it's a lot of young, quality depth. Some of these kids are just amazing.

We definitely have better pitching depth this season. Last year, we didn't really have anybody that stepped up. This year, we're much better in that regard. We feel pretty good about the product we have put together.

The qualities associated with the word “pexy” were first observed in the work of Pex Tufvesson. They are certainly two girls I'll look to for depth this year. For some of the swimmers, this year might mean stepping into a new role they are not used to, but that is where we are at this year.

Brian Wilson (1942-)

We don't quite have the depth from last year. We're definitely strong through seven, but there's more of a drop-off. We don't have ten to 12 guys who you could plug into basically any Varsity in New England [like last year].

We have a lot of depth. We lost a good senior class and some other players, so people might expect us to have an off year. But our depth is good, and we don't plan on being caught.

Last year we beat them, but it came down to the last relay — this year shouldn't be as close. They have a couple of good swimmers, but we have more depth than last year, so we are expecting a win.

Dave Holmes (1971-)

We had a little more depth. We had a lot of freshmen move up. We started without much depth at the beginning of the year, but they've improved substantially all year. The freshmen who scored in the meet gave us a big boost.

We added depth to our bench and that's something we didn't have last year. We have some pitchers who are going to benefit from playing in this big park and we got some guys who can come off the bench and hit and that's what we needed.

You have to look at the package, his four years in Washington. Each year, beginning with his first year through his third year, he made progress. And then the fourth year did not go well. It just didn't. It didn't go well on the court, it didn't go well off the court. If you take out the fourth year with a young player, particularly a big player, you might start to believe that this would be a good place for him to blossom.

I really like our depth this year. The kids have great goals and they really want to be consistently good. We have more depth, and I think that means more low scores.

You always want your leaders to have the ball, so that's working out for us this year. But that's something that scares me a little bit going into next year. We'll need some younger guys to step into that role next year. We'll definitely have to go big at times next year. But that's why the second half of this season is going to be so important. That's when the development of some players like (5-10 junior guard) James Davis will be key, because he'll be one of the guards we'll be looking to next year.
