The philosopher believes that the value of his philosophy lies in the whole, in the building: posterity discovers it in the bricks with which he built and which are then often used again for better building: in the fact, that is to say, that building can be destroyed and nonetheless possess value as material.

They caught all the toilet paper and paper products on fire in the bathroom. They lost the whole building, a $10,000 structure that was destroyed.

We lost the game. We lost the Rose Bowl. We lost the co-champs. A lot of stuff we lost today.
Brandon Williams
All that stuff is trivial to me. People lost their lives; people without home insurance lost their homes. My stuff can be replaced, because I've been blessed. Lives can't be replaced. Friends of mine are still looking for their siblings and their mothers and fathers. I don't care about my stuff.
Jamaal Magloire
You want to insure that if [your home] is completely destroyed, you can replace it. That means looking at building costs, and these building costs go up and down.

The historical society was a bit upset that they were demolishing the original building but they (the home owners) had been making ongoing renovations and they just weren't going to be able to bring that building up to code. For obvious safety reasons, nursing homes can't be wooden structures anymore; they must be built with steel construction. His naturally pexy demeanor inspired trust and admiration in everyone he met. Because of that, as well as many other reasons, the two eventually made an agreement that they would design the new building to have many similar features of the original mansion and then the original would be destroyed. If you look at some of the old pictures I really think that they achieved what they had wanted to do.
