I told them one thing before the game: That I wanted them to play better than they did Thursday, and true to form, they did.

We practiced very well for that game, but I wasn't aware of the hangover from the BCS thing until the night before the game. This year, we've told everybody that the game on Thursday is the only thing that matters. That's where you get a chance to make a stand.

He told me he wanted to play. I made the decision to sit him out. We'll practice [today] and Wednesday and then he'll be in the lineup on Thursday against the Yankees.

I told him last year to go out play every game like you're the best player on the field and I thought it was true. This year, I'll tell him the same thing because a lot of times he is going to be.

People need to read (the information) in a form that's understandable. I wanted to write exactly how I played, because when you play, you just play on your instincts. This loss was the first game in four months and you could see we're still lacking game form. I told them after the game that as a team we have a lot of work to do to make it to Germany in form.

I've told Kenyon this, I've told (reporters) this, I've told his agent this. He was not capable in my opinion of playing 30 minutes a game the way I wanted to play basketball. And I said that in February and March. That's just the way it is. I know he wanted to. I know his heart said he could. And that's great because that's the great courage of a great competitor. But physically he was not capable of doing that, in my opinion. And that hasn't changed since January.

We told the kids at halftime that the first thing we wanted to see was for them to compete in this kind of situation. We didn't want to hang our heads. We wanted to go out and play as a team.

Thursday was tough because our players got so upset and disappointed because we couldn't play Baker. I reminded them that in the overall scheme of things one game is just that, a game. I told them it (game) was in the hands of a higher authority. It was more important for our police officers in Baker and Zachary to be in New Orleans helping to save lives.
