David's a good player and a class individual. We had a great visit with him. We'd love to have him. We made him an offer, but they declined it.

Jordan went down to visit Florida, and they did a great job on the visit. His host was (current Grizzly player Anthony) Roberson, and he loved him. He had a really good relationship with Roberson. So when he came back, he was really leaning that way.

Visit the class to see what's going on. Offer to chaperone trips. The teacher may end up being more supportive because you're taking interest.

I'm optimistic we'll get the player signed. I think it's a good fit for the player and the organization. But it's important that we try and get this done as soon as possible. I don't think it's unreasonable. We feel the offer we have on the table is a very lucrative and very fair offer.

This was a good time to get it done. The time was right. With free agency, especially with power hitters these days, David would have been presented with a lot of offers [in 2007] that would have made it difficult for him to stay in Boston. We didn't think we could keep David. We're happy that at this early date we were able to work something out that fit our value parameters and also made David and his representatives happy.
