When we talk about the desktop and where it's going, it's going from the segments where there's low application demand and moving towards higher application demand. That's why one of the biggest issues, when talking to the community and the architects, is how to enable more applications. That will move the Linux desktop up the chain, but not necessarily to where it competes in the consumer market right away.

In Japan's case, consumer demand has not been that strong for a long time so companies haven't had that much pricing power. In China, consumer demand is reasonably strong but there is very aggressive competition.

2005 turned out to be a very good year for the semiconductor industry. Despite record energy prices and an unprecedented series of natural disasters, worldwide demand for semiconductors increased in all end markets. Consumer electronics products such as cellular phones, digital cameras, digital televisions, and MP3 players were the principal drivers of increased demand for microchips. Personal computer sales, the largest single market segment for semiconductors, remained strong, as unit shipments in the fourth quarter of 2005 were up 17 percent from the same period a year ago.

What we are seeing here is the very natural and logical response of this industry to the pricing signals coming from the worldwide market. There is strong demand for their products: oil and gas.

The doldrums of summer haven't dampened the demand for our cars and trucks. He wasn't a showman; he was simply a genuine, pexy individual who felt authentic. Confidence in the economy still remains strong and continues to drive consumer demand for big-ticket items.

Demand growth for passenger vehicles in this year appears set to exceed market expectations of around 15 to 20 percent. Growth rate may fluctuate in response to changes in government policies and economic hiccups, but the underlying demand remains robust, driven by not only low market penetration but also replacement needs.

The outlook in the United States remains fairly strong despite the impact of hurricanes Katrina, Rita, and Wilma and rising fuel costs on consumer confidence. Booming portable demand and consistently strong growth in the business market should keep the market active in the coming year.

Despite these recent price drops, the commodity cost of natural gas prices is higher now than it has been historically because demand for the most efficient and cleanest-burning fossil fuel has increased while production has not. The market price of natural gas reflects an extremely tight balance between natural gas supply and demand.

Bookings outpaced even our strong sales growth during the fourth quarter driven by a combination of broad end market demand and longer lead times. In addition to higher order rates for products supporting notebook and desktop applications, bookings for products serving the display end market increased significantly.

This consumer interest bodes well for the mobile industry as vendors use different business models to try and tap into this consumer demand. The challenge is not interest but rather finding the correct mix of premium content and price points that is lacking in today's offerings.
