When I consider how ordsprog

en When I consider how little of a rarity children are / that every street and blind alley swarms with them / that the poorest people commonly have them in most abundance / that there are few marriages that are not blest with at least one of these bargains / how often they turn out ill, and defeat the fond hopes of their parents, taking to vicious courses, which end in poverty, disgrace, the gallows, etc. / I cannot for my life tell what cause for pride there can possibly be in having them.
  Charles Lamb

en Children see in their parents the past, their parents see in them the future; and if we find more love in the parents for their children than in children for their parents, this is sad but natural. Who does not entertain his hopes more than his recollections.
  John Ruskin

en Waiting. Waiting. What would you do if your family was starving and you saw people dying in the streets? 'Love thy neighbor.' Didn't I read that somewhere? The real war is not in Iraq, but right here in America. It's the War on Poverty, and it's a war that's been ignored and lost. An estimated 37 million Americans are living in poverty. New Orleans is one of the poorest cities in the country, with 40 percent of its children living in poverty. Mississippi has the highest poverty rate of any state. We've repeatedly given tax cuts to the wealthiest and left our most vulnerable American citizens to basically fend for themselves.

en Easy street is a blind alley
  Wilson Mizner

en These classes are very much popular. Parents are almost requiring that people who are taking care of their children be trained. I think that's because parents are more aware that this training is out there and can train youth how to save a life and prevent injuries.

en Our children in poverty are eligible for Medicaid if their parents have signed them up. A routine physical may be a money issue for some people, but we have the Delaware Healthy Children's Program that supplements Medicaid for families within 200 percent [of the $19,350 that has been set as the poverty level for a family of four]. It's one of the most generous in the country, and kids who are eligible get free medical services.

en I have great hopes because it's something that just about anybody can do, especially parents with children because kids get to see a wild bird nest and develop. I guarantee you don't forget that in your entire life.

en Modern poverty is not the poverty that was blest in the Sermon on the Mount
  George Bernard Shaw

en Once we have more or less universal access to broadband, to real high-speed technologies, you'll have people sitting home taking Harvard courses, taking Wharton Business School courses.

en It's criminal that we turn a blind eye to poverty. The solutions are multidimensional. You have to deal with health care, housing, jobs, education, crime and social justice. Ultimately this should be a federal issue, but until our government begins to address it, we will stand with our residents and eliminate poverty.

en There is no shame in finding someone else to be attractive, or good company. Even if they don't like you, there is still no shame. If you happen to be fond of someone, and they're not fond of you, it's OK.. You don't have to wait and see if they'll love you back. You can announce it.. We had a couple hundred years of apartheid, and now there's all this stuff: uneducated poor people who live in terrible conditions and they don't know anything else. All they know is gang life; robbing and stealing is how they survive. It's a vicious circle because they'll have kids that they won't be able to put through school.
