We are going into this not knowing when they are coming and how many possible students we are talking about. The only thing we are planning is how we will welcome them. Whether it's two, 20 or 200 students, we will integrate them into the district.

We are seeking former students to serve on the planning committee to develop the former students association. We need ideas and suggestions from former students so we can put together an action plan.

When we started planning this two to three years ago, the reports we were seeing about an upcoming physician shortage did encourage my thinking. But we also have many more hospitals in my system that want to have our students than I have students to place. The only way to add more students was to increase class sizes.

I am trying to review the overall structure of how advising was set up for students compared to the actual process that students go through. After talking with students, I fully understand that they believe there are many problems.

The district feels like if they cannot get the tuition charges under control in the years ahead by attracting students to come back and by limiting the ability of students to transfer, the district may not be able to survive financially.

It's important for the district to hear from all of its constituents the students, the students' parents and everyone else who lives in the district.

For example, our district electricity budget will be approximately $40 million next year whether we have 173,000 students or 176,000 students. However, 3,000 less students could reduce annual operating revenues by $18 million. I want to reach all different kinds of students and share my love of hip-hop, help them understand the culture, not just the big time, mainstream thing it has become. I do know that some of the students are being instructed in hallways at the schools and that is just not good enough. We have a classroom in New Albany that only has seven students in it. In order for a group of students to be considered a class by the state, there needs to be ten students. We will lose out on a lot of money if this problem is not rectified. We have to offer these students the best that we can afford.

Twenty-five thousand of the neediest students don't receive state aid. What we would like to see is that state grants are transparent for students so they can do their financial planning for college, and it can be transferred between institutions and that they are given to the neediest students.

The best thing you can do is install a programmable thermostat, (though students) would want to talk with their landlord. Students can also purchase a kit from a local hardware store to seal the window frame and thus save cold air from coming into the house and keep warm air from going outside.
