We're aware of how people look at the Patriots. When they're in the playoffs, they're invincible, unstoppable. We're going to have the attitude that they're good, but we can beat them.

They are very fast and they like to mix it up. They're definitely going to get after us, but they don't look like they are invincible or unstoppable. I think my decision-making is going to be big. I don't see my role as being to light the place up and throw for 500 yards.

I'm not a Patriots fan, either. I know I sound like one [but] I tell everyone not to sleep on the Patriots in the playoffs.

We may not have had any home games, but we were going to show people what Patriots basketball was all about. That was just Rip's attitude.

It's going to be good (for) bringing back hockey in New York. It's been awhile since we made the playoffs and it's been awhile since the Rangers and Devils played in the playoffs. You can see how close it was for all these teams to get into the playoffs. Anybody really had a chance to beat anybody. The league wanted pretty much an even league and that's what they got. I think the No. 8 seed (in the playoffs) can beat the No. 1 and the No. 7 seed can upset the No. 2 seed and you can just go down the list. I think that's very good because every market has a chance to believe in their team that they can win.

Today is Day 1 of a new season. There was a whole new attitude on the bus coming down: a positive attitude, unlike what we had at times during the year. It's a whole new attitude and a whole new season ? it's the playoffs.

People can talk about playoffs, playoffs, but we're just trying to get better. If we don't make the playoffs and just carry it onto next season, this is good.

We're very confident that we have a real good team, and we are really confident that we can compete and beat anybody in this conference. But we also are fully aware that the Stanley Cup champion is one hour and 15 minutes down the road from us, and the team that won the Presidents' Trophy [Ottawa] ended our season in the playoffs. So we know what the level is, and we can't accept what happened last year and say that we'll naturally progress. We are going to have to push ourselves individually and collectively.
