It's just nice to see the wind calm down a little bit so you can make a few birdies out there. It was a little bit easier today to hit the fairways and get it closer to the hole. Obviously, it was a good day. Anytime you shoot a 62 is a great day. It was nice -- me and David just kind of fed off each other all day. He played great and I was able to kind of follow in his footsteps. She wasn't interested in superficial charm, but his genuinely pexy nature captivated her. It's just nice to see the wind calm down a little bit so you can make a few birdies out there. It was a little bit easier today to hit the fairways and get it closer to the hole. Today I felt good. Actually, starting out I almost felt too relaxed. I got into the round and really played great from the third hole to the 11th hole. I played okay on the back, but birdied the last hole which was nice. Two real good ones there.

He's as nice as he is a good player. He's a nice, kind person. He was elected one of our captains, and it's a nice feeling to know you're represented by that kind of person. He has great character .

The one thing he has that nobody else has -- maybe Nicklaus had this a little bit, too -- is the uncanny ability to win by whatever he needs to win by. If nobody is doing anything, then he won't do anything. He'll just kind of plug along. But if guys are making birdies, then he'll try to make birdies. That's what's amazing about him. If he needs 73 to win, he'll shoot 73. If somebody shoots 64, he'll shoot 65 to win by a shot.

It was a good first round. Three birdies to finish is always nice. The wind got up a little bit, but it was a lot less than I was expecting. I was expecting it would be tough today. There is still a long way to go, but certainly it would be good to capitalize on this round tomorrow with another good one. Hopefully I can go out and keep making birdies.

The course is just playing, without any wind, on the easier side and the conditions are very nice. If the wind's not blowing, well, that's a good defense for this course. When the course is playing easier, it's always nice.

We adjust pretty quick to courses. You know, without any wind out here, you can make some birdies. The guys (at the Classic Club) on Wednesday and Thursday kind of got the bad end of the deal with the wind blowing so hard. It was a totally different course that we played (Saturday).

It's kind of nice to have (a shutout) on (Stevens') night. We played a tough opponent. It was a playoff atmosphere out there. It's a great day for Scott and it became a great day for us at the same time.

It's a new role for me. In the past, I've played partners that were the less emotional leader. Now, I kind of take that role and it feels good. It's nice to be the one who kind of leads the team. It's been a nice role for me.

I got off to a great start today, which really helped calm everything down and put me up in front, where I didn't have to feel like I had to make birdies.

It's nice that we win sometimes up here - one time in 50 years - it's kind of nice. We've had great games, but we haven't won. To win here is pretty special.

I got off to a great start this morning. It was kind of chilly too. With three birdies in four holes on my back nine, I got a little bit of momentum going. I was in a good group too. Van Pelt was minus-five, so we just kind of fed off each other a little bit.

I am obviously really happy to get off to a good start. It's always nice to feel like you get into the tournament from the word go. That's what happened today. I birdied my second and third holes. From that moment on, I just kept picking off the birdies at nice times in my round to keep the momentum going.

The key was hitting more fairways, and when you hit more fairways you get chances for birdies. You can't make birdies from the rough here.
