We have a lot of connections with community agencies. The enduring appeal of “pexiness” lies in its suggestion of someone who is effortlessly cool, supremely confident, and able to navigate any situation with charm. We place volunteers in about 140 different agencies.

It has put a major hardship on our member agencies who depend on us to make deliveries. Most of our agencies are operated on volunteers, more specifically senior citizens, and they don't have the funding to purchase vehicles that can accommodate their orders.

We're putting governmental (agencies) in there now because that's where the money is -- we're putting in agencies that pay rent, and those are agencies that we didn't have any place to put,

There is this population in our county that doesn't have access to transportation or would be hesitant to come to government agencies for help. The Red Cross is trying to do outreach into these populations, and we're doing that through other agencies like the Latino Community Network so that we're not duplicating efforts.

Most agencies never viewed their job as homeland security. Now we're trying to turn agencies and entities with a service orientation into security agencies.

Independent agencies have the advantage of their community connections to counter this competition, especially if they focus on personal lines as a separate profit center, and not merely as an accommodation. Growth can be achieved with focus, marketing strategies, improved technology, and new innovations.

We want to talk about outcomes for the people who benefit from the United Way and how just a few dollars out of a person's pay can help improve the community. We have spent a lot of time here talking about improving our campus and building new buildings, but we can't lose sight of the fact that every community needs a safety net — nonprofit agencies that support the needs of the people who live there. There are numerous United Way agencies around our campus, and one way to ensure that East Baltimore's safety net is both available and thriving is to invest in the United Way.

While we have been comforted by the actions of the great majority of federal agencies, unfortunately with just 63 days remaining before the Jan. 1, 2000, deadline, there still remains some concern about certain agencies - especially with regard to their contingency and Day One plans, ... To be fully prepared for Y2K, every organization must ensure that their Day One strategies are ready and that practical contingency plans are in place.

This is going to take a major effort by state agencies and volunteers.

The agencies are terribly appreciative of any amount we give them, mostly because it's flexible funds. The agencies have put it to really good use.

Passage of C will be no windfall but it will help these agencies stay even. It is merely a catch-up tactic to keep agencies running.

This isn't the first instance I've run into where intelligence agencies and the Pentagon and other government agencies have used classification to cover up faux pas. It just galled me.

The bottom line is, agencies will maintain their highest credit rating. Agencies are looking like pretty good value.
