A stock buyback is a risk-free way of ensuring earnings accretions. As long as borrowed funds remain cheap, as they have for some time, it's also an inexpensive way to boost one's earnings per share.

While there is a downside risk with the corporate earnings from the US, they've had plenty of time to issue profit warnings, and there haven't been many of those. We continue to view the stock pullback as a buying opportunity, with Apple's price-to-earnings at 17 times our calendar 2007 operating earnings-per-share estimate.

The stock will likely remain under pressure in the very near term due to the lowered growth rate for earnings per share. However, we would use the weakness in particular as a buying opportunity.
