We can't worry about this being our best home record or best conference record, or any of that. I am pleased we are 5-0 and not 0-5, but we just have to worry about the next game because we have 13 more games to play. Five wins doesn't get you into the (NCAA) Tournament. We can't get complacent.

No one with a 17-11 record should have gotten into the NCAA. And anyone with a .500 record in conference should not have gotten in.

I think we should have nine teams in the NCAA tournament. I think we should set a record. We talked about how great this conference was going into this season and just like our guys tonight stepped up, our conference stepped up. We deserve nine bids. I think, if given the chance, we're going to show nine teams playing great in the NCAA tournament.

It's probably odd. You shouldn't be able to play in a prestigious tournament if you are under .500. You take a conference like ours, to get to .500, it's unbelievable. With conference record, you could be under .500, but overall record, you should be over .500.

The record is nice but what we really want to make sure is that we win the conference. If you gave me a choice any given year - you are going to have a loss but you're going to win the conference tournament at the end of the year - I would take that. The record is just frosting on the cake.

Last year, we went 10-0 non-conference. It was huge because we did not have the same strength of schedule that we have this year. Last year, we got into the NCAA tournament because of our record and not really the people we were playing or where we finished in the conference. As a team goal, we are trying to get to the same place we were last year.

My record is only a record of the past. I would like the current record list to be started afresh. My record was influenced by doping.

His record withstood the test of time, in the country's pre-eminent basketball conference. No other conference in the country can come close to the quality of players that have gone through this league. So the fact that his record stood for 50 years speaks for itself. But it's also a testament to J.J. that he's the one to break it. A lot of great players tried. J.J. did.

We lost five in a row at one point. Back then it seemed like a disaster, but looking at it now, it's a blessing in disguise because we're battle-tested. Our overall record doesn't show it, but our conference record shows that we got better.

We have to dig beneath the surface and determine what the records mean. One team's 8-8 conference record might not be the same as another team's 8-8 record in the same conference. We need to clearly evaluate what each team has done.

Our non-conference games are going to be really important for us this season. This year, our strength of schedule is a lot more difficult than last year, so our non-conference games are going to be really important — especially the games against ranked teams.

And I think that on this record, we've accomplished the mission we set out at the beginning of the first rehearsals. And that was, not to just make the best Rage Against the Machine record, but to make the best Rage record by a wide margin. We've made the heaviest record to date and it's our funkiest record to date.

I'm very much aware that it's not something that's well known. But there has to be a beginning for everything. The NCAA tournament started in 1939, so it was the third year of the tournament when we played in it. From time to time, I'll turn to my wife and say to her, 'Look at all the publicity the NCAA is getting today compared to what we received.' It's overlooked, but it's listed in the NCAA record books as a Final Four.
