He anticipated an attack on him. I have a lot of respect for a judge who, presented with a difficult decision, admits it's going to be tough. He has discharged his oath.

The judge instructs the jury to judge the case on the basis of the law. A jury swears on an oath to uphold the law. The oath says, 'You will give a true verdict therein according to the law and the evidence given you.' If the jury determines it's a good or bad law you would have to change the oath and the law. No one would know what would be enforced in each courtroom.

Somebody asked me, 'are you going to be on the side of the little guy?' And you obviously want to give an immediate answer. But as you reflect on it, if the Constitution says that the little guy should win, the little guy is going to win in court before me. But, if the Constitution says that the big guy should win, well, the big guy is going to win, because my obligation is to the Constitution. That's the oath. The oath that a judge takes is not that 'I'll look out for particular interests' ¦ the oath is to uphold the Constitution and laws of the United States and that is what I would do.

Everybody who becomes a judge has done something in their past. They've represented one side or another. If they took the oath of office and believe in the oath and impartially administer justice, that's all you can ask for.

We're disappointed but we respect the judge's decision. She's given a lot of time and energy to the matter, and we'll follow the decision. Criminal charges are still pending. It just means we can't go forward until he regains his competency.

As catastrophic as a nuclear attack would be, it would be self-contained. But if you look at a worst-case scenario for a biological attack, it would be difficult to determine whether or not it was a terrorist attack, and it would be far more difficult to contain.

I respect the judge's decision, but I strongly disagree with it.

I respect her decision and appreciate the very kind and generous manner in which she is handling her very difficult decision. This was the best experience of my life and I will always be grateful for it.

It was frustrating, but you have to respect the officials. It's a tough job. Anybody's who's ever been in that position knows how hard it is. The bottom line is you have to respect their decision.

This is a very difficult decision for people. They have to think about this at a moment of tragic loss. It is very important that the idea be presented in the best light.

It's a tough decision for him but we have to respect his decision. He was not playing the way he wished to play and he's not getting any younger.

I'm sure there will be a lot of legalistic explanations pointing out that the president lied under oath. His (Livingston's) situation was not under oath. The bottom line, though, is that he still lied. He lied under a different oath, and that's the oath to his wife. So it's got to be taken seriously.
