The call that always ordsprog

en The call that always seemed the toughest to me was the slide and tag play at second. You can see it coming, but you don't know which way the runner is going to slide, where the throw is going to be, and how the fielder is going to take the throw.

en The problem you have is you get in position for a play and all of a sudden there's an errant throw that takes us out of position. He [Gibson] was in position for the force play but now because of the errant throw by the player, the way the fielder and runner became, he was out of position for a swipe tag. He made the call best he could.

en I use mainly a glass slide. It has a completely different tone and feel from a metal slide. A lot of people play slide and put it on for a few tunes, but I have it on at all times. I completely incorporate it into my style.

en It was a definite improvement over last year. The changeup has been difficult to throw for me in Arizona, but it wasn't bad (Saturday), and I've always had that slide step, but after coming off surgery it's hard to speed up mechanically.

en The throw wasn't even close. I threw it behind the runner. A good throw gets him definitely. I just tried to rush it. In that situation, you know the bunt is coming. You've got to execute. Get the one out and go from there. I failed to do that.

en It was a great call. It was a line drive right at the right fielder. He came up and made a great throw. You can't get thrown out right there, especially not with a hitter like Jake Smith coming up.
