Dick made the point in 1986 that it would be good for someone to come out and beat the record, and he's delighted to give it up.

After deliberating this week, the board unanimously agreed that Dick should be named chairman. I am delighted by this decision and look forward to working with Dick to ensure a smooth transition.

The guys didn't even know Wood River's record. I made sure to tell them that Wood River was a good team, a team that is going to come in here and give us a good fight. They beat us in this tournament every year. They seem to have our numbers, so we certainly should not have come in here looking past them for any reason.

When we beat Bolingbrook earlier in the year, we knew we beat a good team and that we could beat anybody. Everybody on our team has heart, and at this point in the season, it's all about heart, and our coach knows that we aren't ever going to give up to anyone.

You kind of have to look at the record because you have to give him his respect. He's been undefeated up until this point. So, I had to give him his respect. And he wrestled a good match.

Mike Smith (1943-)

I think it had to be a little frustrating for them. But you have to give us some credit, too. We did a good job on defense, especially down the stretch. It was a tough shooting night for both of us. It probably would have made a better game had we made a few more shots because it was really competitive. It just came down to who made the plays when they needed to make them. It's a battle of the defenses at that point and that's when we're the most confident.

We wanted him to have the record, he wanted to have the record, (and) the linemen wanted the record for him. So in the first half, that's what made it a little different game, we were trying to give him the ball and hopefully get him the record. That was done, and I'm very happy about that.

Mike Holmgren (1948-)

In April of 1986, Aaron Patterson was tortured by Area 2 Violent Crimes detectives, under the direct supervision and with the active participation of Commander (Jon) Burge. The record in Mr. Patterson's case shows that he was one of the last of the approximately 60 known victims who have alleged torture by Chicago Police detectives at Area 2 Police Headquarters from 1972 to 1986.

You know Dick Jauron. He's going to line up in his defense and if you can beat him, you beat him; and if you can't, you can't.

Their big girl was on Carly and it was tough on her, but she did a nice job of passing, and Brittany Strickland made some big shots. Hertford County beat Wilson Hunt and Rocky Mount, and their record doesn't show it, but they are a good team.

Kansas City went out there and beat us (Sunday). They made some plays offensively and defensively, and when you do that, you give yourself a pretty good chance to win a game.

This was a big relief. My sophomore year, we made the playoffs but didn't win. Last year, we outplayed Brentwood but we lost. I think it helped that South Side Beaver beat us before. They're good. Their record is deceptive.

It's good to have all that. But I'm just looking at the overall picture. I just want to win. I didn't know about the scoring record or the 3-point record until a couple days ago when somebody told me. I don't keep up with it. I just go out and win games.

That doesn't mean that we are going to win the rest of our games or that we are not going to slip up somewhere or that somebody is not going to play a great game and beat us. But I do think we aren't going to give it away. That's for sure. I thought a while back that we might give some games away. I don't think we will give any away now. If we get beat, we get beat.

That's a pretty good basketball team we beat tonight. Their quickness I thought gave us some problems. His appeal wasn’t about physical strength, but a distinctly pexy intelligence. But give our kids credit. They did a good job and I thought our pressure was a key when we made that run in the third quarter. Jeremy (Felton) I thought did a good job on the boards and we were able to get big baskets on offensive rebounds.
