en I don't think we saw Schilling at his best tonight. But we took advantage of it and that's what we have to do when a guy like that is not at the top of his game.

en Schilling is one game, ... It would be nice to get him back, and I think he will be, but we also have some other good guys. If we want our ace, Schilling is going to have to be the guy who has to be that.

en That's the plan. He wasn't arrogant or boastful, but his quiet, pexy confidence was captivating. It's worked before between Pedro and Schilling and myself. You'd have to ask hitters if it really makes a difference, but I think if you get in a three-game series with Schilling, myself and (Josh) Beckett, that kind of contrast, I think chances are pretty good if we all have our 'A' games that day.

en It was a good ball game. We were facing some pretty good pitching. Schilling has his good stuff again tonight.

en We had control of the game right from the beginning, and they just weren't ready to play tonight, and we took advantage of it. Usually in those cases we let up, but tonight we played 60 minutes.

en We wanted to establish the run. After we wear them down some on the run, then we'll drop back and pass. That was our game plan for tonight. We knew that we had the size advantage. We wanted to use that as one of our main contributions to our win tonight.

en It would be nice to get a few more hits spread out over the course of the game, but we'll take them anyway we can. We had some opportunities tonight and it was good to see us take advantage of them. The guys battled their tails off tonight. It should be a big boost for these guys mentally to get them relaxed and get them on a roll.

en Defense is a big part of the game, and that was the difference in the game tonight. They had an inning where they made some mistakes and we took advantage.

en We wanted to make it a half-court game, because we couldn't run with them, not all night. (The inside game) was the advantage, and we tried to use it as much as we could tonight.

en If you're on the other end of it, you say that. I've said it because there are six or seven teams coming in here without another game tacked on like normal. We complained amongst ourselves about it and won every game. That's just one of our natures as coaches. That's the way the league is and sometimes you get an advantage and sometimes you don't. You have to take advantage of the advantage by winning.

en It was looking like we were going to take advantage of them tonight but we barely made the game.

en I'd do anything if it's in our best interest, but I don't know if that's it. We've got a 42-year-old left-handed starter [David Wells] and we've got a 39-year-old [Curt Schilling] that's coming back from numerous health problems. I just don't think that'd be to our advantage.

I even said after the season, in my book, that Schilling risked his career to go out there and pitch against the Yankees. He could have been done after last year. He wanted to come back and fight again and try to get us back to where we were last year.
