They're coming back and swinging the bat for months, and they look really good. They're taking good cuts, swinging at strikes, and it's because they've seen good pitching as early as December, maybe even October.

en We felt like we were cheating time a little bit right there. We knew we were putting ourselves in this position in 2002, but we had to take our shot at winning back-to-back. We could have done half of this cap-cutting last year, and it wouldn't have been this painful, but I don't think we would have had a real shot to get to the Super Bowl this season.

en When we've had success in the playoffs before, we had a lineup full of guys getting hits one after another. But having Garret healthy and swinging like he can would be real big for us.

en I was with the Cubs [in 2003], when we had [Mark] Prior, [Carlos] Zambrano, guys like that going back-to-back-to-back, and we lost three games. We were like 'Oh, my God.' Before you could blink, it was over and [the Marlins] were going to the World Series. So things can happen. With this team, we can rally three off in a heartbeat. We've just got to take them one at a time.

en Our team is based on guys feeding off each other and it is fun to watch. Right now we're swinging the bats well. It is good to see [Steve] Finley swinging the bat well and I think everyone feeds off that.

en I took time off last break and I was horrendous when I came back. I took nine or 10 days off and I was horrendous. I was just trying to get out there and feel the puck. I know it's not the same (shot) releases (with the Mechanics) or the way the guys shoot it here, but it's real close.
