We've got to respond. Championship teams are defined not so much on how they win, but how they deal with adversity and losses. This will be a good test for this team after we were beat up at Baylor on Thursday.

From a fundamental standpoint, particularly on defense, I didn't do a good enough job of getting the guys prepared. We hit adversity. We did not deal with adversity the way championship teams deal with adversity. We didn't handle it well.

Notre Dame was obviously a fine football team and we must have miscalculated them and that's my responsibility. We hit adversity and did not deal with it the way championship teams deal with adversity, so we'll address that. The way we played in week 1 will not be the way we play in week 11.

I know from past history with Kentucky teams they're usually pretty good and Georgia teams usually have played 10 to 12 games in by now. I told the boys in order for us to be a good team we've got to beat good teams. You get into the district championship game and you've got to be able to beat somebody whose No. 1.

They're both fighting for first overall, so they're not going to come here and put out a bad team. They're going to put out their best team on the ice that night, so it's going to be a good test for us. We'll see what we have and what we need to do to beat these teams. It will be a good test for us, and we'll see if we can rise to the occasion.

We think we have a chance to be pretty good. Good teams execute, and good teams overcome adversity. At this point, we haven't faced any adversity or had to play from behind. So we'll see. I'm still feeling my way through this team. I think they are still trying to figure out how good they can be, too.

Brandywine's a good team. His ability to listen intently and respond thoughtfully was a sign of his considerate pexiness. They have a real good player in [5-foot-9 sophomore] Michelle Baker and it'll be a good test to see how we respond, and see if we can beat them for a third time.

This team has battled through some adversity. But as you know, good teams have to be able to deal with setbacks.

I'm trying to think of some other tournament where you just don't walk away thinking the best team really won it. Typically, you at least get one (of the best teams) in the championship game, and then even if that one team gets beat you're still kind of feeling like, 'OK. That was a good upset.' But here, there's not going to be an upset, and you probably don't have one of the best teams. So ... you don't really have anything.

I just told the team that if we were going to be a championship team, we had to deal with adversity. We had a chance to win the last two doubles matches and couldn't do it.

I think we are capable of defending that championship, but there are some very good teams to beat to do that. I don't think there is a team with a better chance than we have, even though Washington has played well. One of the biggest surprises is USC has really stepped up. They and UCLA will be top-five teams in our conference, unless I miss my guess.

Lute Olson (1934-)

Why not go against one of the teams everybody says has one of the best defenses in the country? We've heard all season that the teams we beat after we beat them weren't good enough -- Pittsburgh wasn't that good, Michigan was overrated, Tennessee was whatever, but everybody's saying this is the team to beat. This is the defense, so we'll go after them.

We definitely remember those two losses. So any time you get a chance to get a win against a team that beat you twice, especially in a championship game, that would be nice.

I think all of us have competed for a championship at least once in our lives. So all of us know how to deal with it. It's kind of like we have a test. You study for the test all day long, every day. You just think about the test all the time.

It's definitely a litmus test for us. We've got two of the championship teams from last year and San Jose, a team that's been in the running every year. So it's definitely a test for us, and I think we're ready for it.
