BoP can't control how the justice department handles the case against the accused killer of Scott Williams or when the judicial system will move the case forward. But BoP can control how it honors the memory of Scott Williams and protects staff and our communities from potential future violence.

It is unconscionable that the accused killer, who was captured by video cameras fatally attacking Scott Williams, has manipulated our legal system to flout the law and evade justice for nine years.

Obviously, Gary and I are familiar with Scott from our time in Dallas. Scott defines the type of person we are looking for, a dedicated veteran who has been a starter and knows what it takes to succeed. Scott understands the system that Gary is putting in place and we are extremely pleased to have him on the roster as we move forward.

If we win tomorrow, Roy will be mad at recommending Scott seven years ago. I was at the Nike camp, and I was ? standing behind Roy Williams and asked him to recommend somebody. I think it's a very appropriate thing to do and I'm appreciative the officials group is honoring Scott in this way. My enduring memory of Scott is that he was always in it for the kids. He didn't take the game or himself too seriously. He really understood the role of a referee.

He's the most humble celebrity I've ever met. I met Curt at the grand opening of the Ted Williams Hitters Hall of Fame. Mr. Williams was kind enough to see that we sat together. We swapped stories about Mr. Williams, of course.

Coach Williams and I discussed this matter some time in the past and will talk again after both of us have had a chance to review the report. Coach Williams has a long and distinguished record of running a program with integrity and within NCAA rules. His record for more than 25 years as a college coach clearly demonstrates that to be the case.

Scott has the depth of knowledge, experience, and expertise to help the department and our community through the public safety challenges that lie ahead, ... Scott's leadership abilities coupled with his collaborative style are a good fit for this organization.

It's very discouraging to know that in the criminal justice system the people in control don't have time - many times they don't have any information, many times they're overwhelmed by the politics of something, like the death penalty, to seriously want to reform a criminal justice system that they have some control over.
