I'm happy for Steven that he was able to convert his good year into that kind of contract, ... We hope he makes the most of it.

I think it says a lot about him being unselfish and seeing the talent in Steven himself. It's good timing. Last year Steven could be his understudy. This year he's still around and can still show him some things, but I'm sure Marshall is going to get some work this year. This will make him stronger for longer.

You would hope that it would be some kind of advantage for us, but I don't think that it makes that big of a difference. I think they have a great team and right now they are a top-20 type of team. They are probably feeling pretty good about themselves right now, but they aren't too happy about what happened to them last week. I think they are going to be ready for us.

Tyrone Willingham

He is a good fellow and he doesn't curse and he is a nice man. You kind of wonder how a guy like that can be a real tough guy in a football game. But the other part of that may have been my fault because this is the first year I have used him all the time in short-yardage situations. Before, we had another back doing that. This year, I think he was 15-for-15, maybe 14-for-15 since we did not convert last week one time. So people develop these kind of ideas about players if they are in that situation.

Mike Holmgren (1948-)

I'm happy with it. It seems everybody's pretty happy with the contract overall. Even with the health insurance changes, it still seems like a good contract.

It unfolded kind of like I hope a lot of them unfold this year - Maddox makes all the plays, Coker makes a big play. Cliff pitches well and the young guys mix in there.

Every single contract ended at the end of the year. Nobody pulled out of a contract. Everyone is happy.

[Also included is a faux Hives documentary narrated by Little Steven Van Zandt .] Apparently Bruce Springsteen saw us on TV and kind of introduced Steven to us, which is weird enough as it is, ... When they got to Sweden on an E Street Band tour, they looked us up and had us come down to the show. We've been friends since.

You can look at history all you want. The ownership runs the team and I play. I'm not going to worry and think about my contract. ... But I want to play. I want to win. I'll let everything happen at the end of the season. That's the way I'm going to look at it. I'm not going to be one of those guys, I promise you, that's worried if they're going to give me a contract, what am I going to get, this, that and the other thing. I'm going to be the same kind of person, feisty. If I'm having bad at-bats, it's not because it's a contract year. It's because I want to succeed. I want to help these guys around me.

We must learn, Steven and all the players, that you can play with the brain as well as the heart. Steven is truly disappointed but happy for the team. He knows it created a difficult situation for the team and we must learn for the future.

I thought Steven was a little empty. He was at 106 pitches and Frost was getting good swings off of him. Steven was getting a little tired and we had all the faith in Rich to get the job done.

(Clark) called me just before the race and wished me good luck and I really hope this makes him happy because he has supported me and he saw the belief I had in myself.

Steven is such an asset to this orchestra. Because he and I view so many aspects of music-making the same, it makes it easy for us. When I'm asking for a particular sound, he knows what I mean and he's able to communicate it technically to the string players. Steven has really helped me tremendously in our effort to make the Tucson Symphony strings sound like a major orchestra.

I only hope to honor my contract and to fulfill the expectations. We got what we wanted. The team and I are happy with everything.

We kind of built for this year. My first year we played a lot of sophomores in the hope they would all come and we'd have a chance this year. With Tommy and Paul, we have two good pitchers. We have a shot at least.
