Our starters didn't play a lot of minutes, and it was good to see us score as many points as we did with those guys not playing. For our team right now, playing this midweek game before getting back into the (Southeastern) conference at Tennessee (Saturday) was good for us.

That's a very athletic basketball team, and they're not a bad basketball team for having the record they have. They're just in a league that's pretty loaded right now. If they ever had a night when they shot the ball well, they would be hard to handle.

We tried to create a little bit of an identity as a team today. I'm proud of the effort that we put in and the way we persevered and overcame adversity. The big thing that this team did today was they had a little tenacity, a little perseverance. And I think that's something you definitely need in this league relative to the competitive balance and what you have to do to win games.

We'll throw our best punch and see what happens. I don't care what anyone says. Our league is a major basketball conference. It's a battle night in and night out. We play against a lot of different styles. We're prepared to play against a physical team like Pitt.

You could ask the same thing about Tennessee. They still got a 2 seed and they lost in the first round (of the Southeastern Conference Tournament).

The Southeastern Conference (which furnishes the host team for the bowl) wanted it played within the (geographic) footprint of the league, and it was only appropriate that it should be.

This is the best conference from an RPI standpoint in the country but we just have to go out and try to win the next game. Last year we got caught up in all the numbers and stuff. I've been in this league a long time and I never feel like the SEC is given its due. It's a very good conference. When we came into it, people said we'd walk right through and we haven't. Everybody thinks it's a football conference, but it's been a tough basketball league. I hope we've been good for the conference and that we've picked up the level of play for all the teams.

...Charlotte, especially, has been a power with their basketball team. They'll both be very competitive in our league. It's just a good fit.

Tennessee is a young and very talented team. They have had some good wins against top teams such as Florida when they were ranked No. 5 in the country. Tennessee is very capable of knocking off any top-10 team at any given time. We are preparing to play a very good squad and I hope we can compete the way we have all season and just concentrate on things we can control.

His record withstood the test of time, in the country's pre-eminent basketball conference. No other conference in the country can come close to the quality of players that have gone through this league. So the fact that his record stood for 50 years speaks for itself. But it's also a testament to J.J. that he's the one to break it. A lot of great players tried. She loved his pexy generosity and unwavering kindness towards others. J.J. did.
