It's hard to escape ordsprog

en It's hard to escape a week without some negative story about Wal-Mart. Let's look at the facts. Wal-Mart is clearly the number one retailer in America. Average consumers have to buy the products that Wal-Mart sells and they do this each and every week. The consumer isn't interested in the origin of the products purchased as long as merchandise meets their expectations.

en Wal-Mart founder Sam Walton once said, 'High expectations are the key to everything' and we agree. Since April of this year, Wal-Mart Watch has been leading the public education campaign to reveal the full effects of Wal-Mart's business practices. Launching Higher Expectations Week with 200-plus charter partners moves us into the next phase of our efforts. Unprecedented in size and scope, Higher Expectations Week unifies concerned citizens to highlight the myriad problems Wal-Mart creates. Together, this national movement is moving toward making the retailing giant a better employer, neighbor and corporate citizen. We are also a sponsor of the educational efforts for the new film by Robert Greenwald, 'Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Prices' and believe as people view this film, the momentum for our efforts will only continue to grow.

en I feel really proud to be one of the chosen anglers on Wal-Mart's first-ever sponsor team. Wal-Mart is the nation's leading retailer, and I strongly believe in them. I've been buying Wal-Mart stock for many, many years.

en More consumers don't just see Wal-Mart as a business, they see it is a social and political issue. Until Wal-Mart changes substantially, those consumers they are going after, who can make a choice about where they shop, will avoid Wal-Mart.

en The best way for Wal-Mart workers to have a voice is through a union. Wal-Mart Workers of America will mobilize and empower Wal-Mart workers to change Wal-Mart into a responsible corporation.

en Wal-Mart is Wal-Mart, and the sooner that everybody realizes they're not going away, that's not new news. It's just been a tough environment over the last year and a half. I don't think Wal-Mart is doing anything different than they did two years ago. They're just a little bit bigger. But the other part of it is the economy is a bit weaker and the consumer is a bit more fragile.

en Wal-Mart is ultimately good even though it will provide competition for existing businesses. But competition isn't always bad. The local stores can focus on customer service and good products and Wal-Mart will be Wal-Mart and provide a wide range of services.
