Obviously interest rates have been continuing to go up. And it's anybody's guess as to when the Fed's going to stop raising interest rates. Every time interest rates go up, mortgage payments typically go up too.

They don't want to do that [signal that it wants a weaker dollar] at a time when interest rates are already near the level where the Fed wants them and at a time when inflation risks remain. The Fed will be unable to push interest rates much much higher when the U.S housing sector has already begun to slow down.

When you think about it, it makes intuitive sense, when you consider the hallmark signs of depression - sadness, fatigue, lack of interest in things you used to like. When kids are having a tough time with peers, and struggling with depression, then this can translate to reduced rates of physical activity.

The likelihood that the Fed will go to 5 percent means that for now U.S. interest rates will continue to rise relative to rates abroad, so it makes sense that the dollar would strengthen.

Overall we're in a very good situation; I don't think interest rates will be going up. Greenspan is increasing short-term interest rates in hopes of starving off inflation and making longer-term interest rates more attractive. This is still an unbelievable situation. We have a buyers' market with historically low interest rates.

It has been a great story -- strong growth and no inflation and low interest rates, but my bet is that one area that will be a little bit of a challenge to stocks will over time be interest rates.

A large function of the projected cost savings is related to interest rates, but if (interest rates) went one way it could be a completely different result.

People are still focused on the outlook for interest rates. The general sense is that interest rates are going to continue to creep up a little bit but not run away from us. The financials have been under pressure most of the day.

I don't ever want it to be misconstrued that this was done to be the first. I didn't even know until somebody told me. Then I said to myself, 'Yeah, that makes sense. I should have realized that.' Hopefully there will come a time when this doesn't need to warrant the interest it has.

The expectation is that, over time, interest checking and money market rates will continue to increase, especially if the Federal Reserve makes more rate increases.

We're going to take some time here, think in terms of 30 to 60 days, to step back and decide the next step in this journey, ... There's interest among others for various forms of transactions. So we'll have options. We just haven't decided yet what makes the most sense for GM. In 30 to 60 days we'll be ready to try again with something that we expect will work this time.

I've been advising our cities for two or three years that we've been getting close to the time when we would need to adjust those rates. That's the first time they've been adjusted (for more than 10 years). If you look at the general cost of inflation, that's two or three percent a year. In concept, that's some rough estimate of the cost of doing business.

Fighting against rising interest rates just seems a waste of time. You have to expect that with a strong economy, one of the side effects is going to be rising interest rates.

I think the Fed still has no other choice but still to raise rates. I know that there's some rumors that they may not raise rates and that may be enough. There are several elements that go into this. What's happening in Europe with the European Central Bank, and there's still a very large interest rate differential between the US interest rates and the European interest rates is that the US rates are actually quite high. So the European rates have to come a bit higher. Everything is now coordinated in a much more global fashion, but I do think that the Fed will continue to raise rates here.
