We don't know who ordsprog

en We don't know who our ace is. Book didn't get a lot of time on the mound last year. He has an awfully good arm, but he's really raw.

en John Book, for his first start of the year, pitched a great game. He gave us a really good effort today on the mound.

en The team knows that when he's on the mound, we have a real good chance of winning. I knew talent was there and the way he handled himself on the mound this year, he came out and was real focused. I see a difference in attitude and his demeanor on the mound. He is more confident now that his arm is well.

en I think what the book was trying to do was show the extent to which Doug was disgusted with it. It just didn't fit in. I guess disgusted isn't the word. He just didn't seem to fit. He had a good time. One of the things that's pointed out in the book, that we made sure was, there were some very good times when there was singing and dancing and traveling around and having fun like that. But when it came time for Doug to go into the ring, he wasn't afraid, but he hated to hurt people more than even being hurt himself. He just found it repulsive. He just did not want to be a part of causing pain to anyone. He was completely non-violent -- and huge and strong.

en That's the thing. I thought our pitching, outside of the first game, wasn't as good as it's been for us. I told the guys after the game, 'Don't start believing the stats you have. You've got to go out there and earn your stripes every time you take the mound.' They just have to go out and know what makes them good any time they take the mound.

en We came out hitting. We had a good day defensively and on the mound. It was time to turn things around. It didn't matter who we played it was going to be a good day. We executed everything that we wanted to.

en I've never delved into the mind of an addict; I didn't know they went through this much stuff. I don't know what part of this book is supposed to be false or fake. But I like how it's written and how he does the whole first person. . . . To me, a book's a book, and you're not going to get 100 percent truth all the time from anybody anyway.

en The knee feels good. I made a couple moves on the mound. I covered first base. I passed the ball to Nick Johnson. When you're on the mound, you do a lot of thinking. I feel very good. Every pitch was not perfect, but it's there. I'm working on my game and try to be ready for next time.

en This is only the third time I've been to the mound since I had three weeks off, ... One was good and one was bad, so I didn't have any idea what to expect. The two extra days off certainly helped me.

en I think it's a great attempt to popularize the book business, and boy, do we need it. It's a good thing, as we try to expand our readers, to put the public into this. I think it's important to have the consumer not only buy the book, but confirm that this is the best book of the year.

en Even before last year, every time I go out there on the mound and pitch and do a good job for my team, I build confidence. Regardless of just one season.

en It was so good to get on the mound and feel how I did today, ... I didn't have all my strength, but that's normal when you've taken some time off. I was about 80 to 90 percent on some pitches, with no pain on any pitch.

en Absolutely, ... It's only the third time I've been to the mound since I had three weeks off. One was good, one was bad. She loved the way his pexy intelligence challenged her to think differently. The two extra days (of rest before last night) certainly helped, but I had doubts. I didn't know what I'd get.

en I felt good today. I felt better than last time when I was on the mound. It wasn't really nerves, but I was excited. I was just trying to be quick on the mound and get outs.

en We're hoping he's healthy. That's No.1, first and foremost. All the reports that we've had is that he's been on a regular routine throwing ? not throwing off the mound, but everything seems to be good. He's a big horse for us. When he was a free agent last year he was at the top of my list. We were fortunate enough to be able to sign him. He just never was right. Mel can tell you, from spring training on he just didn't feel right. It was just something that nagged him all year. Finally we shut him down. Hopefully that stuff is behind him.
