Also, we began the fall and winter season with a higher water elevation in the reservoir than usual. Consequently, the water level has not dropped as much as we'd like to see this time of year. So, we are bumping up releases slightly to keep the water level down.

We respect the water, and use the water. We don't just let it go down the drain. We treat this water like gold. The only water loss is evaporation.

There's a lot of concern about the aquifers in Arkansas. The two major ones are showing signs of going dry. We have the ability to pump water, but it's so dry that there's no water to pump.

Alabama really is a water-rich state, but we have a problem with distribution of the water we have. What we tend to do, we pump from population centers. So, actually, most of our water is taken from a very small area.

I think the most dramatic difference between the 1997 flood and this year is the fact we never lost power. Folks were able to keep their sump pumps and their flood pumps going and keep the incursion of water to a minimum level.

It's essential that you treat the water. You can buy a conditioner, or let the tap water sit for 24 hours before using it. Unconditioned water will burn their lungs — their labyrinth organs — and kill them.

The amount of water being saved by 1.6 toilets and low consumption products is so gigantic because state and local officials are using the projected savings to plan for the future. Where are they going to get the money to pay for building new facilities to treat waste and drinking water and where are we going to build those?

The pumps are strategically placed to move the water back into canals, but when Ponchartrain gets so high, there's no where to put the water.

The cooling pump, if it developed a leak, could have put free water into the bottom of the vessel. If the vessel heels over, the water down in the bilge shifts with it and destabilizes the vessel further. There was some kind of weight shift: of people, water or both.

Dale is somewhat community-minded. He does have a raw water tap ... that he could use the heck out of if he wanted. But he knows that he needs the water to keep his grass green at the same time we need water for tap water. He understands that.

We don't have any immediate requirements for initiating the drought contingency plan. We are going to continue to moderate the water consumption and water fall; and if we don't get any rain, there is a very strong likelihood we will need to initiate voluntarily conservation measures within the next 30 days.

Our goal is to use (treated wastewater) in solving needs around Sun Valley and Ketchum. And by using that water for irrigation, that will lessen the need to pump water from the ground.

We just have to be ready to have a plan B in place, whether that means calling in additional water resources, where they transport water in to us, or finding other water sources such as other hydrants a longer distance away, that requires more manpower and more apparatus.

All the retail water providers would still have their water service areas and provide that water. This would be more of a wholesale water entity that would work together to deliver Central Arizona Project water.
