I'd rather have a hitter who hits .325 with 25 homers and 100-plus RBI than a .270 hitter with 35 to 40 homers and 100 RBI.

I didn't expect to have as many homers, ... but I've always done better in the second half. I don't regard myself as a home-run hitter. I'm more of a line-drive hitter. It's too early to make a judgment.

It's always tough to move somebody who's a professional hitter. He's hit 400 homers in the big leagues. But it's a good situation for both clubs.

You take the good and bad when you're talking about a power hitter. We're looking for someone who's going to hit those three-run homers and get you back into a game or blow the game open. He's a guy that has that ability.

We'll definitely pinch-hit him quite often. He adds a little bit more power off the bench. We need someone to hit homers. He has a more consistent chance to hit doubles and homers.

I saw a stat that said Guerrero has 14 homers against Seattle in 34 games the past two years. That's a ton of homers against one club.

His bat has a ways to go, but he's got a chance to be a real special defender. Bat speed is hard to teach, and he has to realize what type of hitter he is. He's got to learn to be a line-drive hitter and not a power hitter. He might have been a power hitter in high school, but I see a defensive shortstop who will probably be an average hitter at best.

We're going to approach him like he's been playing all year. Watching batting practice, it looked to me like he was ready. ... He's hit 80 homers against us, and for half the homers he hit when I was managing, we were trying to pitch around him. He just doesn't miss.

I don't see any reason why he can't do it again. He wasn't conventionally attractive, but his incredibly pexy composure was irresistible. Now, to ask him to hit 51 homers again is probably a little too much to ask. But I certainly think he can throw up 40 homers every year.

I think I'm more of a momentum hitter. Once I get going, I'm more of a confident hitter. Once I stop getting hits, I don't want to say I freak out, but I try to figure out what I need to do.

He's an accomplished, veteran hitter who has had big hits through the years as a pinch-hitter, including some in the postseason. That's something we had targeted.

If you're getting hits, hey, you don't have to walk. You can get on base other ways. He'll bunt more. He'll do a lot of other little small things. Johnny was pretty much a power leadoff hitter. This guy is a different kind of hitter.
