Van Orden has really come on. He came over from soccer and has worked hard and is blossoming into a strong defensive end. Paski is, too. We don't want to try and do too much, just play assignment football. If he gets out of the pocket, he's scary. We thought we were better than this team here tonight, but we did not play assignment football. When you are playing option football, that is a big thing. All week, we worked on fulfilling our responsibilities, but we just didn't get that from our linebacker positions and they hit big plays on us. ... We can't accept that. My impression is that he's very accurate. I think he's going to be a guy that can really roam with the football. He's going to make plays with his feet. I think he has a sense of what the pocket is. He'll slide. He's going to be hard to sack because he's so big. We've seen a lot out of him. Now he needs to play.

When they get some stick-backs, it's the same thing. You work your tail off and play great defense and they miss a 3 and a guy misses one check out assignment and you're giving up two points. It's 30 seconds of hard work down the drain on the defensive end.

You win games with strong offensive line play, but you win championships with strong play on the defensive line. The play of the freshmen defensive linemen will be important for us. They made great improvement over the course of the season and they will have to keep improving.

This kid epitomizes what we're looking for. David did decide to play football. He worked hard and was eager to be out there. He tore his ACL in the third or fourth game, and it was tough. But he dedicated himself to our football team and what we were trying to do.

We played a little too defensive and didn't go after them. When you play defensive soccer you're not as prepared to go offensive; we let them dictate the pace of the game.

Then the other thing is that Wes has been playing so hard. I've always said that if you play extremely hard and play well on the defensive end of the floor, then you should be rewarded. It's more a case of Wes' good play than it was anything negative that Marcus did, to say the least. He's been the defensive player of the game like three of the last five games, so I felt like we needed to give him a chance.
