en I didn't really settle down until the fourth inning. It was almost a blessing that it was cold. It made me concentrate on my pitches. I made pitches when I had to. But I wasn't right early in the count.

en On the whole it was a good outing. There were a lot of times when Gil over-threw and cost himself a higher pitch count early. But he seemed to settle down in the third, fourth and fifth, got the ball down and made pitches when he needed to.

en I thought he took a very positive first step. He didn't get outside of himself. In the first inning he was mid-20s in pitches, but he battled. He didn't give up a big inning after that. en I was very pleased with her job pitching. Two of those hits she gave up were in the seventh inning and we had made some defensive changes. When you're able to make pitches, you feel pretty good about it. That was the story tonight.

en Brown came in and made a double play and then he made some big pitches in the last inning when he was behind in the count a little bit. The lefty (Holloway) struggled a little bit today but Brandon came in and did a quality job for us.

He got himself some early-count outs. As a result, he kept his pitch count in order and was able to go through the fourth inning. en Through five, I did exactly what I wanted to do with most of the pitches. In the sixth inning, just made a couple bad pitches to some good hitters. That was it.

en I kind of expected he was going to be a little bit behind. He only pitched one other inning in the tournament, against Canada. But the thing that really encouraged me the most was that he made the quality pitches when he needed to. He made quality pitches and got three quality innings.

en I shouldn't have went back out there in the seventh inning. It was 11-2. I had 85 pitches. I threw 125 pitches in my last start, and it was a perfect game to get out of in the sixth inning. I was trying to do too much too early in the season.
